The Unofficial ECU Core Identification List

Hey guys,

Over the years I've collected various Maxima ECU's, either from purchases here on the Org or by inheritance when I bought a Maxima with extra goodies. Anyway, I have 9 extra ECU's, of which, only 3 are listed in Jim Wolf's chart. I lost my list which identified what ECU is what.

Can you guys help me figure out what I have? Just want to know what year it came out of, and the transmission type.

Also, for the benefit of the Maxima community, if you know what your ECU is for a fact and you can post it, I can add it to the list. With any luck, we'll eventually have all years and all possible combinations.

If you do post, please list the following: Manufacturer Part No., Nissan Part No. (if known), Year, Auto or 5spd, Fed Spec or Cali Spec, Trim (GLE, GXE or SE)

The Manufacturer Part No. is on the 1.5"x1.5" square sticker on the face of the ECU. I have no idea how to determine the Nissan Part No.. maybe it's on the inside of the ECU?

The original source came from JWT. The list is far from complete.

A18-N10-Z90 & A18-N11-Z91 & A18-N12-Z92 are auto fed spec '99s.

A18-J50-4E6 is a '99 fed spec SE manual.

I found one thread that claimed A18-N07-Z87 is a '99 manual fed spec, but unconfirmed.

Sorry I couldn't find trim details on all of them.

Good luck finding A18-E12-EQ2

REG is the designation for which emissions requirements the car/ecu was destined for.

F= Fed
C= Cali
U= outside of the USA...

The manufacturer of our ECMs is JECS (Japan Engine Control Systems). It appears A18 are ECMs for Nissan sedans and coupes after 1985.

The manufacturer part # can also be read from a sticker on the driver side of the ECU. This one is usually easier to read and can be read with the ECU still installed in the car. So we should be able to get a good accurate list if everybody lists theirs, We would just have to confirm emissions and model since some people wouldn't know.

Here's a small list I have.

A18-B42-EL1 95 Auto Fed SE
A18-E11-ER1 95 Auto Fed GLE
A18-C85-EX9 95 Auto Fed GXE
A18-C85-EY1 96 Auto Fed GXE
A18-J08-E5Y 98 Auto Fed GLE
A18-G70-E5U 98 Manual Fed SE

Great job guys, thank you all for your input!

Fakie, what's your source for the info? Org search? or?

Joe, I thought of that sticker too. But when I compared mine to my known ECU's on the JWT list, they didn't match up.
...and thanks for sharing your ECU list!

I'll update the first post shortly.

I used

Here are two extra ECU's I have laying around that I know the origin of other than trim:

A18-C84-EX8 = 1996 Manual Canada
A18-B41-EL0 = "rare" 1995 Manual Fed spec

How do I find out what month/year A18-B41 EM0 was produced? I know it's a 95 ecu, trying to figure out if its an early production rare ecu that I'm looking for. Thanks for any info.

Good question. If the Max is around that it came out of, you could look at the info sticker in the door jamb. I believe the car's production date is there. Same production date for ECU?

From my experience it doesnt matter if you have gxe, gle, se, as long as your a 5 speed your good to go. 97- 99 youll have issues with rear 02 sensor and issues with 99 egr possibly nats (not sure). I think i may have 1 early 95 automatic fed spec ecu if anyone is interested in that.
