What's the best spark plug to use?
 

So I'm going to be installing my 00vi and wanted to do new spark plugs.. Just wanted to know what's the best spark plug to use for this?

NGK all day.

NGK copper's vpower. If you don't want to ever change your spark plugs then buy the double platinum ngk but those are like 5 times the price of the ngk v-power coppers. Coppers just don't last long so you get to buy new fresh plugs sooner.

get the best one, you get what ya pay for.

NGK Iridiums if you want the best not to mention they last 100km lasting longer than copper or platinum so for the extra bit of money you'll spend that would be the best bang for your buck so to speak.

People have had issues with spark plugs so make sure you are more specific when you help people.

You can not gap those kinds of plugs, just coppers if you know what I mean. Sometimes you want the "cheap" plugs. Depends on your specific application.

Op use coppers they're not bad at all. I changed mine this past summer and I have had no problems with them. Don't waste your money on those iridium bull**** plugs you probably won't even have the car for another 100k.

coppers are so cheap in price and they are easy to replace, who care if you have to change them more often.. 15 min job once your know what your doing.

Change the coppers in the summer and it's an easy job on this car unlike some cars where you have to remove the intake manifold. Either way buy NGK. Just don't buy the inbetween platinums, if you wan't platinums get the oem laser double platinum which has platinum on both the electrode and ground strap.

we are speaking of 4th gen maximas… its cake to replace them. I use one step colder coppers SCrged.

Why do I get quoted so much to change spark plugs? I thought u had to remove the manifold to get to the lower three spark plugs?

So ngk double platinum if I wanna go the best and coppers will just do? This is my daily driver but I do like to beat up on civics at a red light or two..

Coppers are acutally better in performance, platinum material lasts longer than copper and iridium lasts longer than platinum. On these cars you don't have to take anything off to change the plugs, you lucked out. So buy the coppers and change them every summer.

U don't have to remove the upper manilfold to change the plugs.

cause people are crooks thats why they charge so much, they are so easy to replace.. I buy cheap copper plugs from Nissan 11 bucks.. but I need one step colder plugs since Im super charged. No reason to buy such expensive plugs but that my opinion to each their own.

i always stick with double platnums on the VQ motors. YOu replace it once and forget about it. I'm not a fan of replacing parts every summer just to save a buck. Do it once with the right parts and forget about it for 100k miles.

Not to mention, you don't need to gap the double platinum, one less thing to worry about.

But its your car, do as you wish.

If you have a supercharger like some of us then you use the coppers because you can't gap platinums and copper conducts better. I'm not replacing them to save a buck, I'm replacing them for better performance. Like running premium fuel over regular. :D And if you feel that way then why didn't you put iridium plugs in? They last even longer. :D

Asking what the best spark plug is...is kind of like asking what's the best oil for our cars...everyone will have their opinion.

I say stick with what Nissan recommends for this car. NGK Plats

I just bought some one step colder NGK coppers at NAPA last week for $2.04 each.

Personally, I use one step colder NGK coppers, but that's because I'm SC'd too. Copper is supposed to have the best spark (conductivity). In my opinion, going 100k miles between changing spark plugs sounds great to the average person, but as a gearhead, I just feel better replacing them sooner as sort of maintenance item...so two benefits for me.

If u have a supercharged 4th Gen then you don't have to get coppers you can get the double platinums from the dealer which are one step colder and the part number is pfr6g-11 ngk from Nissan and only Nissan dealerships have that sparkplug. I got them myself and they are only 10.00 each.

Yes, we know about those, but I'll stick with my coppers for my reasons listed above.

Are you NA or do you have forced induction Maxima 97 SE? If NA, what's your reasoning for running one step colder plugs?

I thought people were being cheap untill I got educated.

Depending on how much boost you run you will have spark blow out hence why coppers are better because you can gap them smaller to remedy spark blow out, unless you run higher voltage to the coil packs which allows you to gap the plugs larger and you get better fuel ecconomy.

BTW mobil1 0W-40 5qt. jug costs $25 at walmart which is half price of auto parts stores and if you look at the back of the bottle it lists the gtr which has a twin turbo VQ(R). Plenty good for a normal car in my opinion. 0W is better for cold starts compared to other weights and it has enough protection for hard running. If anyone doesn't like m1 don't hate, just trying to help everyone save money and treat their engine nice. I started using it after reading oil analyis on bobistheoilguy done on a vq35 and his was before they listed the gtr on the bottle. But it does say porsche, bmw, mercedes-benz too. :D

No I'm stock on my maxima 97 se. The only reason why I used them is because they make your. Engine a little cooler by removing the heat from the pistons faster because the tip is Tad bit shorter and not long. Plus its good for preventing spark knock if u have any.

Plus for oil the castrol edge syntec that's made in Germany which is 0w30 is better than the Mobil 1 0w40 because its a thicker 30 weight and it does not shear as fast as the Mobil 1 0w40 and it lasts longer. The Mobil 1 becomes a thin 0w30 after a while where the castrol stays a30 weight and has better shear stability.

German castrol is the best but price is another factor. When I did my research I found that german castrol is the best but it's hard to find and costs a lot too. The m1 0w40 costs about $50 in parts stores so the $25 at walmart is a deal. Again, the castrol has to be german which is hard to find. BTW I was afraid that the m1 would not be able to hold up to crazy driving but once I saw the gtr start being written on the back I stopped worrying. And I change it every 3,000 miles. But on my normal cars I run like 4-6k miles. Depending on how I feel, time constraints and the weather outside.

I had gotten my castrol made in Germany from autozone which was normally 8.99 but they had apromotion and got it for 5.99 a quart and on the back it said made in Germany and it said European formula 0w30. I have it in my maxima and it runs really good at 302,000 miles.
