accident another nice 4th gen out!possible part out

Well unfortunately i must report that i may be off the .org for a while...was in an accident and im not sure its worth it to fix it....
quoted like 2 plus grand to fix it...should i part it out?
heres my post when i first bought the car...let me know if you think there will be enough interest in parts etc.......pics in cluded in this link
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...s-opinion.html

it now has 5th gen 16s on it and good tires...plus all the o2s are new, and i put a tranny cooler on it when i got...i basically went through everything..even though it had been superbly maintained1..
im bummed out!

pics first man, i know it sux to deal with paying to fix up the car. is it drivable, any damage to axle's, trans, frame or motor? see if you can get parts from junkyard instead of having body shop put on aftermarket parts which won't line up perfectly and won't be as sturdy imo. there's also 4th gen classified section where you might even find parts already in your color. most 95 to 99 parts will line up except bumpers and grills and some interior parts. pics of damage and body shop write-up and we'll help you best we can.

You can't really have $10K in damage to a vehicle that's only worth $3K.

Agreed^^ a $2000 quote is actually good news IMHO. Because this means you can get it fixed for $800 - $1000 if you can find a body shop that doesn't mind installing used parts and a junk yard that will sell you parts cheap. I usually try and become knowen to the owners of wrecking yards because the better they know you the cheaper the parts will be. In some cases anyway.

I follow the same thought process more they know the cheaper hell if you can find a junk yard that will let u pull ur own parts for even cheaper go with them... The price ur saying isn't that bad using used parts is the way to go .. I would keep the car ... Especially if you cousin own the body shop he should b trying to help your pockets out

Keep it! my max was hit a couple months ago and after the insurance company for the lady who hit me got done giving me the run around i went to a pick-a-part, pulled a couple pieces i needed, brought it to a friends shop and he fixed it for less than $2,000 (the insurance company called the car a total loss, saying there was $2,800 worth of damage)

Moral of the story: Having connections and a DIY attitude can pay off big time

I was saying "Had" meaning not just 4th gen maxima , what I was trying to say is people in general have had 10k$ worth of damage.

Ya well im not the closest to my causin, plus 2 grand in labor is a decent price..i found the same color parts car for 800 bux...there is no engine or frame damage..but was hit pretty hard in front of the pass front wheel...before i bought it it had a new radiator support put in and i seen reciepts for that and that was close to 1000.00 so 2 grand for labor sounds fair...but as of right now i am still bedridden..my back is f%$#ed!
you guys have been great for info..so i will post pics soon and let you know if im parting it out!!

I think you meant auto ECU on M/T car. In which case, yes it will work but not good and you will get tranny codes. You really need an M/T ECU and you can even use one from 95-96 just find one at junkyard.

995speedsel Dude, 99 was the first year NATS was on it. It's a safety device called transponder chip key's. If someone doesn't have your key with the chip in it, the nats blocks the ecu from sending injector/ignition signal so you can't steal the car. It's great, only problem is on the '99 it can randomly forget your key in the memory of the computer and you can get stuck stranded in the middle of nowhere. I never had it happen but mine had low miles. Besides you can't just plug in a 95,96,97,98 ecu in because certain pins are in different locations on the wiring harness. It's pretty easy to find and fix but I'm surprised you didn't dig that up yet. Good luck.

5 years ago, shipping may have been reasonable ... today? Not so much.
