Fog light electrical rewire question
So I followed a guide I found on the forums about rewiring your fog lights to turn on without having your headlights on http://vqpower.com/v3/content/97-99-fog-light-rewire
It says that the fogs will stay on when the headlights are on but when I turn on my headlights my fogs turn off.... Anyone have any experience or advice or tips that you could give me to fix this problem? I want the fogs to work independently and with the headlights. thanks so much guys |
You're not reading the write up correctly.
The only difference with the mod is that the fogs can be turned on with the parking lights and for the hi beams when before/normally fogs only turn on with low beams and off with brights. |
Is there another place I can splice in or run another wire to get the headlights and fogs to be on at the same time?
|
No what I'm saying is I want to be able to turn on the fogs independently and still have them be on with my headlights on. With it stock the fogs only turn on when the heads are on
|
both of those write ups will get you what you want. if you did the mod and they don't work write, you messed up somewhere. double check your work.

OP owns a '99 and neither one of those write ups will help for a 99 due to different locations of the fuses.

If you have a 1997 or 1998, that write up should work. BUT...
If your car is a 1999, that write up will not work. The 1999 electrical system is different and the relays were moved around. |

Good to know..my early 99 probably prevents me from this mod. Dammit
The fog light circuitry is the same for all years of the 4th gen, so that mod in that vqpower link (http://vqpower.com/v3/content/97-99-fog-light-rewire) will work. What that mod does is changes the way the fog light relay gets energized. In the Nissan design, the relay energizing coil gets its power from the headlight switch. After the mod the relay coil gets the power from the tail light circuit. The fog light switch on the headlight stalk still turns the fog lights on and off, but with the mod, you can turn the fog lights on whenever the tail lights are on. The easiest mod to do would be to allow the fog lights to come on anytime you turn the switch on. That includes when the engine is turned off, allowing the battery to run down. But I don't want to promote that kind of a mod. So the mod that fat_kid posted (http://vqpower.com/v3/content/indepe...g-light-rewire) is the one to do. It prevents the fog light relay from energizing unless the ignition key is in the ACC or ON position, so you won't leave the lights on over night. And again, this mod will work on any year of the 4th gen. |

I wires my fog light on my old 4th gen to the wiper relay. You can have them on whenever you want. With headlights on or off, with parking light on or off.

this is the best way to do this mod by far. especially since the wiper relay is powered by ignition, you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn off your fog lights when you turn your car off.
