4th Gen: Brakes won't bleed, Brake pedal goes to the floor. Ugh!
First I was having trouble with the right rear caliper sticking (as I was driving), so took I took apart to make sure it was working (moving) okay. After putting it back together, when I went to bleed the brakes I had no pedal pressure and the pedal now goes all the way to the floor. No matter how much I pumped it! I pulled the line off of the caliper and no fluid came out when pumping the brake pedal (many times). Looking for help in fixing this! Wondering if the caliper was sticking because of a bad master cylinder? Booster? Vacuum? No pedal with motor running, when motor is off the pedal is very tight!

Got Brake fluid? (kinda like milk. LOL)
Then try Bleeding. Then probably the Master Cylinder if there are no leaks. Good luck and keep us posted! |
Thanks! :-) Fluid is full, no leaks. I'll replace the Master Cylinder.

Definitely your Master Cylinder...It has an internal leak and once your pedal starts engaging in the second stage of the Master cylinder (Lower pedal position)...and you have no leaks nor air in system. It's usually the tell-tale sign that your Master cylinder is on it's way out!

Had the same thing happened to me once and it was the master cylinder.

Thanks!!!
A big THANKS to everyone for their help with this! I installed a new Master Cylinder and back on the road!
