Fixing up a '95 Maxima GXE

Hey folks. I'm not car saavy, but decided to teach myself afer buying a '95 Maxima. I want to tune her up and shape her out. I've innstalled a body kit and have some vinyl on the way, but the performance is in need of some TLC. Any suggestions would be much appreciated as well as a sound place to start.

Thanks!

Ok, so the air filter is actually brand new but if I were to put in the cold air intake, wouldn't that make the other useless, or would stock run along side the new intake? I'm planning on getting all the fluids changed since I have no idea when they were changed last. That being said, before I buy new filters for everything, is there something specific I should look for (Better systems, alternatives, etc.)?

I have been working on cars for over forty years.

Start with plugs filters oil-change knock sensor and premium gas. This is the cheapest and best thing to improve performance to what Nissan gave it.

Auto driving

Is the car already mechanically sound? I would check to see that all the major systems are working properly first.

I bought a '99 and in the past 5 months I have had to replace the power steering pump, the radiator, the alternator, the cam position sensor, battery, two ignition coils and now the harmonic balancer is bad, the heater core seems clogged and I've had an engine code for the rear O2 sensor. I've done the work on my own (with help) but I'd keep an eye on your engine compartment!

Just be sure that the basics are in order before you go upgrading stuff!

Everything seems to be in working order. Sounds good and all. I had a small problem witb the engine dying, but turns out it was a loose hose. From what I can tell, she just needs to be restored and cleaned.
