Best Coil Packs

I am headed to the JY tomorrow and want to pull some rear coil packs. Besides Hanshin, which are the best brands to get? I've got a set fronts, all Hanshin.

JvG 09-10-2015 02:10 PM

Hitachi

The front injectors are the same as the back ones. The front ones are easy to get to while the rear ones are buried under the manifold.

Please look out for cracked pintile caps. Several companies will clean and test the injectors and install new caps and o_rings. I paid 18 bucks each. My fuel mileage improved, the engine has more power, and emissions have decreased.

This is NOT true ... This is apparently dependent upon your build date.

From the factory (Japanese origin) my (1999 SE-L) front three coil packs are/were Hitachi. My rear three were Hanshin.

Nonetheless, if you're able to acquire full sets of either branding, you're totally good to go IMO.

How did we go from talking about coils to talking about injectors?

Maxima 97 SE 09-10-2015 05:43 PM

Mitsubishi are the best coil packs made for the 95-99 4th gen nissan maxima. These coil packs lasted a very long time and rarely failed. These coil packs also gave the smoothest and quietest idle with no vibations at idle. The hanshin had a recall on them on the 99 model becuase they failed at less than 50,000 miles and nissan had replaced them instead with mitsubishi coils. But its really rare that you will find any mitsubishi coils because nissan does not sell them anymore as they only sell hanshin. Plus the Mitsubishi coils have a much better spark plug boot which insulates the plug way better than the hanshin. Search on the forum by typing hanshin vs mitsubishi and you will find threads that say mitsubishi's are the best.

Because I'm having one of those senior moments..... sorry about that.

PH98I30 09-10-2015 10:13 PM

Looks like I'm after Hitachi or Mitsu's. Thanks for advice.

nissan99 09-11-2015 03:56 AM

On my 99 the coils in the back are longer and the front are shorter .. Always get the factory ones from the boneyard for best results

PH98I30 09-11-2015 08:03 AM

That was sort of the question. Which were OEM? My car came with Hanshin but others have Hanshin or Mitsubishi or Hitachi. I guess any of those will do. All my coil packs are original with the car and have 146K on them. I want some spares in case of failure. Yes, the fronts are shorter than the back ones.

99 maxima coils

Is there any way of telling what brand the coils are?

max ride 41 05-02-2016 07:29 PM

it's written on the coil pack, the fronts are considered left, and the rears are considered right. different part number as well. hitachi is the oem for all 6 coils on my 95.

I have a set of Mitsubishi coil packs in the classified section. Cheers.

Mitsubishi, Hanshin, Hitachi, Denso, Beck/Arnley ; in that order, IMO.

How did those NGK packs work for you? Thought about buying a set.

wess155 01-30-2020 04:32 PM
