Who is still modifying their 4th gen?

I just noticed while on today, there are a ton of "I have a problem, I have a rattle, I have a code..." Lots of the need help threads... *disclaimer: not knocking it, it is the main reason the community exists*

BUT IS THERE ANY OTHER ACTIVE 4TH GEN BUILD OTHER THAN ME?!?!?!?!

I know there are... because I know people, but... why NO one wants to post up on the .ORG?

If you are still modifying this 20 year old grocery get-er, Post up below, throw a holla out at ya boy, whatever... :sadpace:

I feel so alone (sarcasm)

I still modify mine, only a little bit though to make it look good. under the hood is stock, no CEL and not sure if I plan to mod it more. That may change though.. It looks good the way it is now, i chose to go with the luxury look and thats the theme my car has..

I just started the basic modding with exhaust, cat back, looking for some headers other than obx, because of the figment issue where the front engine mount is. I wished cattman was making there stuff there stuff was perfect. The OEM headers are not bad, but the headers with the initial gain that would be great. I was financially found to do this now instead of the late and early 00.

LJay 03-10-2016 08:15 PM

I lowered mine, installed a sound system, picked up new G35c wheels (for the summer) & I plan on getting it repainted either this month or next month. Might mod it a little more but reliability & fixing small problems is the motive for now!

95naSTA 03-11-2016 12:43 AM

I'm more or less done modding since engine wise there isnt much else to do besides tear it all apart again for cams. I'm just looking for better track numbers now since I replaced my clutch.

Won't do a 6 speed swap since I like being at the top of 3rd at the end of the 1/4 and 30 mpg highway is plenty good for the power.

Won't do a full 3.5 swap because I dont have the time to rewire my daily.

Won't fix the body any more than I already have because it looks decent enough for a daily.

All in all though its pretty fun for a non-IRS, FWD, Japanese grocery getter.

schmellyfart 03-11-2016 02:27 PM

I am. Just haven't had time to write up a full thread for my recent engine swap.

However the car has been demodded a bit. Sold my Cattman 3", uninstalled the mr2 seats, and back to a full size battery.

Am currently working on writing a program to control the dual VIAS and do some datalogging.

bumpypickle 03-11-2016 11:29 PM

Every time I started to take interest in modding I decide to spend the money on something my car needs and not what i want... It's a curse.

lrb6805 03-14-2016 09:35 AM

95naSTA,
how do you have 30mpg highway? I can only get up to 26mpg

95naSTA 03-14-2016 12:37 PM

Fuel trims are on point and a good guess for setting my intake cam timing.

I managed 31 on my old oil burning DE.

I have an i30 that I'm still modifying. I have done simple things like brakes, CAI, and magnaflow exhaust. More modifications in the future is possible. I am new here so nobody has seen it yet. Heres some pics: (a sound clip is attached)

I just registered like... 30 minutes ago.

I bought my first Maxima like... 30 hours ago.

I've done some light-to-moderate repairs on prior rigs over the years, but I've never owned anything that was a candidate for modding. Part of the reason I got the Maxima was to find something "responsible" that still has fun potential. I think I've got my hands on a good one and hope to do a "Hello World" post soon to introduce it and get ideas from folks.

Have fun with your maxima! I have had mine (i30, equal to maxima) for over a year now and I love it. My suggestion is get to know the car for a while before you mod it. That's what I did and I love my car. But, if you choose to mod it, its a completely different animal. This is a great modding car because it isnt too advanced. My friend has a BMW and he cant mod it because of all the sensors. Have fun!

I'm in IT but I'm more of an administrator than a programmer. Most people in IT are either programmers or administrators. Programmers create and destroy things, while administrators clean up after them.

Hey you live in Washington thats where I used to live. Lots of tech companies there. Do you live on the east side like bellevue or seattle? I used to live in Issaquah if you know where that is.

How is the job market up there? I'm in IT currently working for a MSP in north NJ, and I'm actually trying to move out your way. OR or WA or even 'couver BC maybe.

JoshG 03-22-2016 05:41 PM

Lol went home from work yesterday, rolled down the drivers windows down cause of how nice the weather was. went home and the drivers window won't roll back up.. Regulator died on me, rip. $200 to fix it. good thing the others work, replaced my drivers rear about 3 years ago for the same price.

Been 5 months since my $400 repair. Oh well. Gotta be prepared to put emergency $ on the side.

Please take it to PM. Don't derail the intent of the thread. Thanks.

still modifying 4th gen

My i30t is 20 years old and I'm now going the opposite direction! I am stripping out all of the old mods except the super charger. I don't race anymore and I'm now 73 and drive like a senior. I've been on the org for a very long time, some of you probably remember me! I even removed all the racing decals and at the end my car is around 400 lbs lighter.

What the... holy mother...

you've been around since I was day 1 on here. I remember. Legend status build man.

Finkle 03-31-2016 08:07 PM

I was until just a couple months ago.

Mine, just like countless others, has give up to the rust god.
It had decent rust when I got it. I thought I could transform it back to it's original glory. I tried with some success, but that made the rust god angry, and over time, he took back the car.

The last straw was the radiator support. It only had a year or so left before dropping the VQ. My poly motor mounts didn't help im sure.

I am proud to say the max was the car I modified the most and did the best job making it look like it came that way from Nissan.

I am. Sadly mine is an Auto which I ****ing hate but I just put coilovers on it, getting 17” wheels, going to to the VQ35DE swap in the near future as the cars has as of right now 304,544 miles. Straight pipe exhaust and on Godspeed project Mono SS coilovers.

If you are at 300k and wish to be manual and are going to 3.5 swap and have your heart set on keeping that car and not finding one in better shape, I'd say do the auto to manual swap in the process

yeah sorry hahah forgot to add the 6 speed swap too. That’s what my plan is. Once the engine blows manual/engine swap. I hate automatic so much. I have an A33 that’s a 5 speed but it’s currently totaled in a hit and run. Still runs, I have to keep it for insurance purposes that’s what they said so it’s off of insurance but they said to keep it for the investigation? Which makes no sense. But yeah. I want to do a 3.5 and 6 speed swap because I love the body style of the A32’s. I’ve had it ever since 210k. So it’s been well. Just now modifying it because I hated stock height and wanted to be low again🤓

98Marxima 06-14-2018 09:39 AM

Wish I could, but I'm always broke!

BransAm 06-14-2018 12:39 PM

I have a 99 5 speed and i am modifying it slowly but surly. Getting ready to get it painted then i will be looking for some wheels and a custom Leather kit. 4th gens are my favorite of all time and i just found mine last October in Pristine condition.

i was just thinking the other day if I had to repaint I'd go white, I like the white/black look. I wish I would of found one in slightly more pristine condition, but good paint/body 3.5 swap 140 on body 70k on engine, full exhaust nwp spacers. what was needed in restoration was made up in modification. These cars are a hell of a steal with their book value anymore

What color are you repainting the car? I'll add my car to this thread in a few days I gotta repaint the body kit
