Test alternator in wrecked car?

I have an almost brand new alternator in my old front end wrecked 97. one of my friends sprayed pb blaster and tried my alternator in my 99.

As crunched as the 97 is I don't wanna go through the hassle of removing it if it's been ruined from sitting out in the weather only partially covered by the hood. There anyway to test the alt with the car off?

The alternator also gets wet under the hood whenever it rains. It should be fine.

If you don't have a machine or tool to test it, I'm not sure that you can. Of course you can take it out and take it to Autozone or Advanced and have it tested. As for sitting in the car, it should still work if it was working before the wreck. Think about it, parts like that are pulled from junk yards all the time and they work. Plus a lot of the cars in a jy sit for long periods before people give up and have it towed away.

The problem with yours is that you don't know if it was damaged in the wreck. The only way to find out is to pull it and have it tested. I'd rather take time and pull a FREE alternator and have it tested, then pull one from a jy and have it tested and it to be bad and have to take it back. I put one in about a year ago and it was around $100.00 from Autozone. Hope this helps. Good luck.

What brand is the alternator?

This would be my advice as well.

I said screw it and tractor pulled the front end off the wrecked car.. sure made getting to the alternator easy. but Maxine is now back on the road with a better alternator
