Car wont maintain an idle

Hey guys. I'm seriously looking to purchase a 1998 Maxima tonight. THe only problem is the current owner states that the car wont maintain an idle. Hoping someone here could offer up some kind of reason as to why the car wont idle. THe owner states he believes the problem to be either fuel injectors or coil packs. Thanks, .

any codes?

The problem is fairly common.

many things could cause that. just guessing that it's plugs or could is not accurate, and expensive.

bs, take it to a place that will read the codes for you, ie a scanner. sounds like he's too lazy to find and fix the issues. don't rush into this, could be a lot more under the surface than meets the eye. gl

I hope you stopped by an auto parts store and got the codes read. I wouldn't be surprised if the check engine light doesn't work.

Ignition coils and fuel injectors would most likely make the engine miss and run rough. Maybe a throttle position sensor?

Get a cheap scanner from eBay or CL. Actron/Autel/Equus/Innova. You can probably get one for $30-40.

Could be the knock sensor, TPS, MAF, lots of things go bad in these cars.
