OEM SE Springs colored paint spots?

Anybody know why they are there and what they mean? Two fronts are the same. But the two rear springs and different. One has a blue spot and the other has a yellow spot along with the other spots that both have.

Thanks!

I believe yellow is for the driver's side and blue for the passenger side, but I can't confirm that from a factory build sheet.

Anyone else have the definitive answer?

Thank you for that! Hopefully, I'll get confirmation. I'm sure the Scott Russell rear design has something to do with whatever subtle differences there are.

I'm seeing on a Toyota forum where Yellow = Driver Side and Blue = Passenger Side.

Thank you for finding that!!!!

It gives me some reassurance that yellow is on the left and blue is on the right. Two references is enough of a pattern! LOL

Thanks to you both!!!

The paint spot also point to the alignment of the spring hat of your strut in the front.

Might you be able to elaborate a bit? I'm not connecting the dots in my head! Below is a picture of the OEM springs, courtesy of 93SEMax.

Thank you!

Just to be clear, this is a picture of 1998 SE OEM springs from a car with automatic transmission. The color coding should differentiate between A/T vs M/T (front springs), and also LH vs RH (rear springs). There should also be a differentiation between the GXE and GLE springs (Luxury) vs the SE springs (Sport package).
I have included two pages from the 1998 FSM that helps identify the color coding. That being said, the 98 FSM doesn't match what is in the picture. These springs are original OEM springs from a 1998 SE! Red, purple and green colors aren't listed in the 1998 FSM. I'm wondering if the 97 FSM has different colors than the 98 FSM.

One thing is clear, the "Sport package" springs are a different diameter and height.

Interestingly, the color markings is a bit unclear, but alludes to the opposite from what's posted above.

Yellow Gray Blue = RH
Blue Gray Blue = RH

But then again, the SE springs for the 98 & 99 (seem to be the same) have:

Green Gray Blue
Green Gray Yellow

Thanks 93SCMax!

BTW, that picture posted is the spring set he has for sale. VERY Clean!

Is the rear spring on the left actually a bit taller than the one on the right or is it from the camera angle?

I've read where a driver side spring can be determined by a visual difference that indicates it should carry a heavier load.

Yeah Yeah Yeah.....

So I need to lose a few pounds.

I'll check what I have later! But of course your statement is loaded with logic from days passed!

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to refresh the paint and make these look new again, since everything else will be new?

Thanks again Fellas!

They are the same height and it looks different due to the camera angle. Based on the 98 FSM, the rear SE spring height (free length) should be 310 mm. GXE/GLE free length is 320 mm.
