Ac compressor or clutch?

Before the comment comes to use the search, I did and really didn't find anything with an answer.

So I purchased my 99 back in September of last year. When I did so, there was a squealing noise coming from around the compressor. The AC still worked great, just that annoying squeal. Anyways, being that the ac was no longer needed at that time of the year I decided to do the whole shorter belt bypass. While changing out the belt I noticed that there were a bunch of metal shavings around the area of the compressor/pulley.

What I am trying to figure out is, would I be right by thinking I can replace the clutch and move on or would it be wrong and i should just replace the compressor? I'll be the first to tell you I have no clue about ac components, besides the AC is my friend. Lol.

Any advice, solutions, questions, I will be more than happy to take and or answer. I just want my account to work.

Pfa

It's my opinion that without a little more diagnosis, assuming that the issue is the clutch (or the clutch only) might be pre-mature.

Have A/C repairs or service been done previously?

I ask this because typically, an A/C service shop will introduce dye into a system they're working on. If this is the case, have you done any level of inspection of the system to check for leaks?
