Lower Rear Strut Bolt Bracket Rusted/Stripped

This has got to be the worst damn design I've come across on this car. The nut spins when going to remove it. there is a solid metal "bracket" for the nut that I assume was at one point supposed to lock the nut and keep it from spinning while you remove the bolt but the brackat and nut have lost too much integrity for that. So while removing the bolt the nut on the back spins and the bracket covers it so I can't fit a wrench or socket on. I have a sawzall and a little Dremel with pencil shaped tips that were good back in the day for cutting windows into plastic Xbox 360 cases so cutting the bracket off is a no go given the work area. Im swapping rear struts between my cars because the other ones got less than 500miles on them and I also know that car has the same problem as here

That's happened to me on occasion. I take a medium sized straight edge screwdriver and hammer it into the opening where the nut is located to prevent the nut from spinning while I remove the bolt. The screwdriver takes up the slack that allows the nut to spin. I use an impact wrench to remove the bolt. Soak it with PBlaster or equivalent also.

Try wedging something in there. Flat head, chisel, nail; whatever you have pound it in there good. Then try and remove the bolt. More often than not it has worked for me. I've cut stuff and even welded the nut to the "cage" for lack of a better word. I have a bunch of nuts on hand and replace them when they start to spin.

I got it, cut the front side of the "cage" off bent it out of the way and got a wrench on it. I actually have a spare nut/bolt for this from awhile ago on the old car, wish I had two. <I say that then get to the drivers side it zips right off and the previous owner already replaced it with the new bolt and a new nut, convenient

The whole rear axle beam design sucks. And cheap metal and no finish to make sure it starts the whole delamination and corrosion failure thing. Wonderful in the North with snow and salt.

Yeah Ohio sucks. I'd like to get my radiator support done soon and the rear beam in a CPL years, I'm probably gonna try to do a good job with some rubberized undercoating

IMO, the nut should be tac'd on. So you don't have to **** around with a wrench when gunning the bolt off and on.
