Haunted antenna

My daughter has a 1999 Maxima. A couple weeks ago we noticed that the power antenna was up when we went out in the morning. (It was down the night before). Then a few hours later we went outside and it was back down again. It had not been started for a couple days. Over the last few days it seems that we never know if it is going to be up or down when we go outside. Stereo works fine. It is an after market stereo. She has had the car about a year.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

There is a wire coming from the stereo head unit that tells the antenna to go up or down. When the radio is on, the wire has 12 volts and the antenna goes up. When the radio is off, the wire has no voltage and the antenna goes down. It is a possibility that the radio is causing this, but that is a really, really long shot in the dark.

What has a higher likelihood is that the antenna motor section has water in it. There is a printed circuit board in there to control the up and down and this may be shorting out. The base always has power to it, so it is a possible cause.

Thanks, I will take a look at that this next weekend. Is that motor each to get to?

Opps, easy to get to, not each. Autocomplete strikes again!

Remove the trim in the trunk on the right side. Remove 2 bolts holding the motor, remove the nut at the base of the antenna. Then there's a drain hose and harness plug.
