Sunroof problem 4th gen maxima

Hello everyone. Hope you can help me. My 98 nissan maxima has a working sunroof. Nothing is wrong with it, goes up and down and opens and closes. The only problem is it has a burning smell that just recently started. Smells like it is coming from the motor but i opened the little pannel up and it works perfectly fine. Just has a strange burning smell. Is there a fuse for the sunroof? Or any other problem that can cause it please help.

Sounds like your S/R motor is going. Start saving your pennies, or visiting some salvage yards.

thankyou for some feedback. Whats also weird is that i really never use the sunroof. Like i never open it really. And its mainly when i drive i just smell it even tho its not operating /:

Does it sound slower than usual?

And especially when it is particularly cold outside?

Chances are that the old grease has dried up.
That causes it to get sticky.

The sticky greasee in turn causes the motor to work hard and get hot. Which causes the smell. The smell is the insulation on the wires to start burning up

You could clean the old grease off, then replace with fresh grease.

what kind of grease would you use, and where can i buy it? And actually no it sounds the same as before. Looks really good too. The motor spins well and when i lower the window for some reason it pushes that smell in the whole cabin. So hoping it could be the grease as u state. Its just really weird. But it does smell like burning wire or something coming out of there. Also looked backed there a bit wires look in very good shape /:

oh and yes its about 50 degrees to 60 degrees and it started pretty much in the cold. But its so strange that only when i put down the window i smell it cause i can feel the wind there when i drive with the little pannel open to expose the motor. Smell is disturbing lol

I would use white lithium grease.

Other members might have other suggestions.

I usually use kerosene as a solvent to disolve grease. Other degreasers could work as well.

The concept is to remove the old sticky grease which might also have imbeded grit and grime.
