tune a 4th Gen ECU?

I'm lookin' at that 00vi setup that's for sale. The path of least resistance seems to be all 5th gen parts (including larger injectors) that "requires a tune".

How does one tune a 4th Gen ECU ? Where's the best forum write up on it?

VAFCII
Jim Wolf Technology (JWT)
Emanage Ultimate (EU)
Haltech
Nistune

EU and Nistune are the favorites here on the ORG.

I'd highly recommend nistune. Conzult cable, got the nistune board from tuner wizard, spent 15min installing it myself with a $5 harbor freight soldering iron and some nice solder flux, found an automotive forum with a crack for one of the more recent versions. Spent like $300-$350 in total

If you don't have a compatible ECU eBay is a great place to find one that is

"Find Vehicles" doesn't list any VQ30 applications...? Is that all the letters I would use to reference the stock motor ?

I'm guess I'm a couple of years too late to the party.

It's the type 4 dual ROM board it lists the A32 in the description

What year is your I30?
Since you are in Houston, I would visit with Moncef at AdminTuning and get his opinion. My son talks to him when he visits NWA. He suggested a tuning setup for the 99 SE. Though, I can't remember the approach he suggested.

For a simple 00VI set up I would just go with a VAFC2.

agreed ^^^ 00vi is pretty basic in the grand scheme of things, tuning with an air/fuel controller such as VAFC2 is more than enough. Itll let you adjust your fuel and control the VIAS solenoid. If you want to do more in depth stuff youll need an ECU reflash or something like emanage.

If youre interested, I have a VAFC2 for sale as well as a 96’ manual trans JWT ecu (full bolt on tune + 7200rpm rev limit), if you are interested in either or simply have questions shoot me a pm

thanks to everyone who responded on this. i bought the 00vi setup and an IACV adaptor too. I guess I will proceed with NISTUNE (instead of a VAFC2 - so I don't have to go back and do it again if things get really crazy later).
