Passenger side axle removal, I can't pop it off!
 

I need to replace my passenger side output shaft seal but I'm struck trying to pop off the axle (passenger side). I'm prying where the axle starts to taper, isn't that the correct place? Any suggestions thanks.

I don’t think the passenger side needs to be popped/ pried out quite like the drivers side. The pass side is held in by the carrier bearing midway along the shaft which is bolted up on the frame. When you remove those bolts the shaft should come out of the trans pretty easy.

Is that what the 3 bolts are? Like on that bracket? Yeah kinda midway along the shaft...?

Bingo, that holds it in. I would say be careful and support it when you remove the bolts as to not put weight on the seal, but that’s what you are changing anyway so just be careful on the reinstallation. It’s one of those jobs where a 3rd hand would be helpful.

That bearing support's purpose is to give the drive axles equal length from the bearing support to the hub as on the driver's side, from the trans to the hub! Back in the day there was no bearing supports on the first generation of American FWD platforms So the longer drive axle and shorter drive had horrific torque steer! It was dangerous as hell, if you drove a powerful fwd car and accelerated from a stop it would literally rip the steering wheel out of your hands!!! it was scary and not right! I remember driving an early 80's Dodge Charger 024 and man did the car scare the crap out of me with the torque steer! Just thought it would be cool to let you know why that support bracket is there!

P.S. When reinstalling it be sure to not smash you rear O2 sensor wire harness between the support and drive axle it happens a lot!
