Fuel pump question

Ok. This is a race car. So I had to put in a new fuel pump, and it seems like I am having a ground issue. My question is, will it be ok to just hook the pump to a switch and just leave it running while the car is running? Or do you have another suggestion?

I would use a relay which powers the fuel pump only while the engine is supposed up be on.

Fuel pump on load side, engine on trigger side.

Would it be a relay I would need to buy? Or use an existing relay? I am not wonderful at wiring issues, but I am learning.. lol

you could use the one from the air conditioner, power windows, etc. Or from any circuit which you are no longer using.

just research how relays work. Then a wiring chart for our car which will show which teminal does what.

I'm thinking that a switch could be accidentally lent on. A leaking injector would flood the engine.

Did you already rip out most of the original wiring?
if not, the existing wiring already activates the pump only if the car is starting or running.
