RE Top Speed
I've had a 93 SE 5spd, a 96 SE 5spd, and now a 99 SE 5spd.
The 93 was under 120. The 96 would peg the speedo at 140. The 99 has been to 127 but ran out of road; that was stock. Will try it again soon with mods; Front & Rear STBs, sway bar, Max Rev Y-pipe & Stillen cat back upgrade, HKS ignition, Max-Rev cold air intake, Wilwood SuperLITE brakes in front, Tokicos & Eibachs, 18x8 Fitipaldis with 245x45ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sports. Next comes oil cooler, HD clutch, limited slip diff, & turbo with water/air intercooler. ShowAndGo....

Alligator Alley is a good stretch of road to try a top speed run. Its really straight and there isn't a lot of places for the cops to hide.
I was able to hit 112 in a rented 2000 Taurus. It accelerated to 100 then almost took 10 minutes to reach 112.
Real piece of crap.

just wondering but
for those whom say they were going 140 + indicated or otherwise, how is that possible for you to know if your speed goes up to 140??? unless you replaced it, it should be at 140 shouldn't it? like on my old taurus, the speedo went up to 85 but i got it up to 100 tailing a friend's supra whom was going 100.

Speedometer wrap
I've got a dash shot of my car doing 150+ at 7000rpm. Hahaha. Slightly Photoshop modified.
Seriously, I've seen an indicated 145ish at just past 6500rpm in mine. That's probably accurate, magazines have gotten 143 out of the stocker and I think the lowered suspension helps reduce under-car turbulence (read: drag).
I've got a legitimate dash-shot at 131mph at 5500rpm... on the way home from the SpeedZone festivities at Maxus2K.
Somebody was talking about sustained high-speed running... I have to say the Maxima (when lowered with Z-rated tires) is one of the best Japanese cars I've driven for this. It's up in the GS400 category for munching miles at high speeds if you ask me. Perfectly smooth, quiet, stable. It just seems to lope along at 120-130mph forever.
Averaged 92+mph from Atlanta to Charlotte, NC... many way-over-100mph sections. It's too easy in this car.
Not quite as good as a Teutonic terror like a 540Sport or even M3 for hustling away the miles, but it's pretty good at it.

ok, that all makes a little more sense...
since i've never buried the needle on my speed, i wasn't sure if it would still go around, and even that, it'll still be off. but there are too many variables to determine speed, mainly wheels and tires. because rotational mass, actually tire width and diameter in relation to the stocks and actual model of the max will have a big factor. let say you were only off by two miles per hour at 60, that number will grow exponentially. i think thats right so correct me if i'm wrong.
as for indicated or otherwise, imho, anything over 120 is probably not as accurate as it claims and even then, 120 is pushing it.

Uh, no Maxima yet. Empty stretch of I5, had my `92 Saturn up to top speed... ~105mph (tires are 2% oversized, IIRC) or maybe a tick faster, plus or minus speedo error. Very, very stupid thing to do and after getting pulled over last weekend for doing 85mph on I-5 (no ticket! *PHEW*) I don't think I'll be doing over 85mph for a long while....

I got my 93 SE auto up to 110mph........
It was about noon and I accidentally got on the closed for construction lower level of the Verazanno Bridge, I also roadkilled a 1990 shaped Acura Legend at that time but just kept pushing it, lost the Legend at about 65, got to 110 but slowed down because bridge was ending plus my ****in steering wheel was shaking so hard I was barely holding it.... I gotta try this again, this time, without the 160 lb dude in the passenger seat!
AND I'm all stock

I got my 92 SE up to 135...
NYCE Maxima I got my 3rd gen. up to 135 and it was an automatic. On 87 North on my way upstate, clear sunny day about 90 degrees out. At first I was running a/c but when I hit 100 mph, the road was so wide open and there was only 4 other cars in site (imagine that anywhere in NYC!) But I closed all windows and stayed in the pedal all the way to and indicated 135 mph. Bone stock, with a set of cross-drilled front rotors. Sometimes I still miss that car. Dont tell that to my 4th gen SE at home.
Shhhhhhh she'll get jealous.

I've done this plenty...
But the most memorable was coming home from Pennsylvania where I-66 begins from I-81 and I had her buried for about 5 miles.... damn the 5 miles came by quick. Another was on I-95 Southbound from the Triangle exit to the Stafford exit and was racing this older Conquest TSi and had it buried at 145, but he inched passesd me(not blow by me) when I was buried, so Id say his top was 150+. It was an exhilerating race... who gives a damn if I lost all I know is that he couldnt loose a 4 door Maxi.

In my little car...
I hit 123mph when I was stock...stock everything...suspension, exhaust, intake. Felt pretty good despite the wallopy suspension.
Kept up with a V6 Camaro easily...hmmmm..
I wonder how she'll do with intake, Cattman Y-pipe, and Greddy?

Heh, in my Altima...
I made the 3 1/2 hour trip to Houston from San Antonio on I-10 in 1 hour and 15 minutes, topped out the whole way at 119. This was around 6 o'clock in the morning with no traffic on a Sunday... good thing all the troopers were asleep.

122mph
122 mph still pullin quite hard. Can't find a road long enough that i wouldn't be nervous of having my 1 year old liscence taken away. Otherwise i would definitley try to take it to its REAL MAX!

135+ for no reason
I was driving home from the mall one day in my 96 GXE which had no mods with a friend of mine and I just sort of leaned on it (not floored mind you) and got up to 135+ before ******** a brick and chickening out. Could have gone faster but my Brain got in the way. Since then I've gotten several speeding tickets and if I get another I automatically lose my liscense so now my self-speed-limiter is set at 80 mph. Is it just me or do the earlier 4th Gens not have speed limiters?
#66
I live in Germany for 3.5 years and got to take my Max for spins on their beautiful freeways(bahn). I've got a 96 GXE auto with S&C package, so no limiter. The speedo would touch 140, but once my revs hit the red, the car would drop about 3-5 mph. This was on 17X7 & 215/40 tires so my readings were probably waaaaay off. I'm assuming I was doing 130. The good thing is the car could go at these speeds without any worries.
We need to pay the Germans to build an autobahn here in the U.S.

It makes a difference. Since more air = more power, vs. the factory system. Your car should feel a little peppier, as far as mph added ....... I don't know.
