Does anyone know of any engine swaps possible for the 95-99 Max? What about a 00 into a 97, I was thinking of this only if my engine goes in my 97.

5th gen into 4th would probably work. I've even heard that a Pathfinder engine might fit into a 4th gen but I'm not the guy who could tell you...
|
why bother?
5th and 4th gens have the same engine. only diff for increased horses is the intake/exhaust manifolds. Vic |
We can get enough power out of this one -->
Once you get to a certain point, adding more power does not make sense. Especially if you can't get it to the ground. With the SC on my car, there are a lot of cituations where I find my self spinning wheels through 2nd gear. I think we need upgraded traction the most.
ie Quafe LSD... when??? Matt P |
lol matt about spinning into second gear! well, does anyone here know if the japanese spec engine...VQ30DE-T basically turbo-charged version of our engine is possible? how about just getting the turbos from it?
anyhow...someone pls let me know...thanks rgds jason |
Engine swaps are for 4-banger Honda's
- As far as I can tell from reading car magazines, the only difference between a 4th gen and a 5th gen Maxima is in the breathing. My friend and I thought that a 2001 Intake Manifold would bolt right in, but a quick check with the most knowledgeable parts guy at my dealership said that (by parts number only) it probably wouldn't work. I'll try and physically check the gaskets to see if it will work. Also, don't forget the cool dual-stage muffler on the new ones.
- The swap to a Pathfinder engine would be cool. I think it's the same 3.0 liter as us, but don't forget that there are two versions for the truck. One, as advertised in the "polo" commercial had 240hp, but only used one kind of tranny (I think the auto). The other version that goes with the manual has more torque, but less hp - I think - it could be the opposite. Apparently, Nissan didn't have two trannies that could handle the same loads. That also means that YOUR transmission might not be able to handle that much power. You might need to upgrade your clutch and/or reinforce 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gear like Nissan did for the 5th gen Maxima. - Anyway, the point is that you can apparently bolt in some factory spec stuff to build your own 2001 Maxima or Pathfinder engine for less than the cost of an engine swap. Leave the swapping for the Honda's. |

Re: Re: Engine swaps are for 4-banger Honda's
- Sorry about that. You're right about the Pathfinder having a 3.5 liter. (Is it architecturally based on ours?)
- Do you think swapping the intake manifold for a 2000 model would work? I'll try to run to a dealer and check it out this weekend unless someone already knows. |

What about swapping piston heads with the Pathfinder. After a lot of work on the cylinders in the max there would be a nice displacement increase.
|
just wait a few years
The 2003 maxima is going a have a version of the 3.5 liter pathfinder engine it it, if you can wait that long. One of my dads friends that works for nissan said that they are doing testing right now, and it will probably be on the SE only, likely with 270hp@6200 rpm, and 255ft-lb of torque @4000 rpm. Then we will run all over the BMW's!

how about a nissan frontier supercharged v6 engine?
Dont tell me that wouldnt be nice |
its already f/i and only pushing 210 i'd rather be n/a at 222
|
I heard that someone actually fit the nissan 4.5 V8 from the infinity into the max with a lot of work.!

You can't swap the manifolds though. The intake ports are shaped differently. Upper and/or lower runners are different? Or the the intake ports on the heads? |
Actually you could cut and weld a 4 & 5th gen manifold together. Lotsa work to get the surfaces to mate togeter properly though,.

Tricky welding job
