Nissan's Engine Cleaning Service
I was at Nissan to get my Maxima inspected and I saw this system they had there. They hook a pressure line to where your oil filter and a vaccuum to where your Oil Drain plug is and shoot a high temperature detergent through your engine to clean everything out of your engine. It takes out all of the old oil sludge build up and cleans the rest of your internals including the inside of your valve cover. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS BEFORE? What was it like when you got your car back and drove it? If no one has done this I am going to have it done this weekend and post my results.

Ive seen that too, been very tempted. Waiting for the right milage and results from others.

My dealer offers both services - fuel and oil system cleaning. Pat Goss from MotorTrend endorsed the Motorvac units and their process. I did the fuel cleaning @ 45K - no harm done. Another thread on this recently...

I had this done 3 weeks ago and i am glad that i did it.. What they did was just flush your engine and my car runs a whole lot better. No more rough idling and other stuff.. The guy was tellin me to get it done like every 15k miles. But when you get it done GET YOUR OIL AND ALL OF YOUR FLUIDS CHANGED!!!
HOLLA!!! |
I've heard that if you need to do an emissions test on your car, it is recommended that you DO NOT do an engine cleaning on the same day as the test. A friend of mine did that on his car at the recommendation of the mechanic (to pass his test) & he FAILED it! Nice/competent mechanic....
Apparently, it takes a day or two of driving to really clear out the "stuff" so that you don't blow any of the pollutant limits. |
Such cleaining is recommended for cars with less miles on them, not for cars with 75,000+ miles on them. These cleaning processes remove the deposited carbon and lead to more play between moving parts.I would talk to a decent mechanic before getting it done!

How much does this service cost?
|
My Max is at 112k...approaching 120k..
..when it will be due for ATF change and radiator coolant (1 year old), fuel filter, and probably brake fluid (do not race that often, so it's a "maybe").
I wonder whether this service should be done as well.... |
the service costs $100 and takes an hour or so
|
it cost me bout 150 but that was for the oil too..and get it there in the morning or you may end up there all day like i was!!

My mechanic has the machine and I love it. I did it 3x's so far and it drives much better after. He also cleans out the fuel system with another machine he has that recurculates the fuel or something...very $$$ machines but he doesn't charge me all that much. I would recomend doing this.

I have 71,000 miles on my Max SE, would the engine cleaning be recommended at this point??
