here's a cheap way to get rid of Chrome Door handles

get some color Vinyl tape from your local auto parts store. I just tried it on my fugly chrome door handles and it works like a charm. looks great!

www.paintscratch.com is the not so ghetto way to approach it

Maybe it's just me, but I think the chrome handles on my silver Maxima actually look pretty good. Then again, they look almost body color, so :gotme:

Could this same vinyl tape be used to make headlight "eyelids"?

Yes I believe so. but I think that screws up you headlight beam pattern so I wouldn't reccomend it.

Ok, cool. Just asking because I have clear headlight covers with the "eyelids" painted on the cover and would just like to replace the cover and put the vinyl on e the actual headlight and corner light. People say without my "eyelids" and xenon headlights they look like my low-beams are high-beams, and its not that I need to realign my beam pattern since my non-xenon stock bulbs are just as high, its my xenon lights that are blinding so in my case it actually helps to have "eyelids" for the sake of not being flashed all the time. Thanks, I'll have to look into my local Autozone and see what they have. And to keep this on topic, I happened to sand down my chrome door handles with I believe was 400g, used some adhesion promoter and sprayed a universal import black spray with a follow-up of import spray clear coat, all of aboutg 4-5 light mist coats. Turned out perfect, check my homepage for pics.

The vinyl you get at the sticker shops is better.

then again, Vinyl eyelids looked kinda cheap. I used to have them for awhile until I finally made real ones

Is the tape shiny? I think paint will wear off. No?

You have one of the nicest interiors I have ever seen. Did you paint the interior trim yourself (dash, gauge bezel, door trim)?

the tape is not too shiny. I probably should get some vinyl from a sign shop that would be more shinier, but this is a good temporary fix. Which paint do you mean, when you say it will wear off?

I dont get why everyone hates the chrome door handles...they look tight on my black max with chrome rims. I think people just change them cause its an easy mod to do

Kevin May 2, 2002 08:15 AM

Are you serious? I think that chrom is just plain ugly. I think it looks tacky. the colored door handles make the car look more sporty.

shaz May 2, 2002 08:30 AM

I see what you mean if you just dont like chrome period. other wise, I think they look kinda dope :)

iansw May 2, 2002 08:55 AM

I think it looks fine with chrome rims, but some of us don't like chrome rims in the first place.

finny May 2, 2002 09:07 AM

i thought it looked good when my car was stock, but now done up a lil bit i think it looks like sh*t

meccanoble May 2, 2002 12:02 PM

chrome handles compliment the maxima, why would u want to get rid of it?

Kevin May 2, 2002 12:12 PM

I guess it's a matter of taste. some ppl like it some don't. I just need to find a white SE owner that likes chrome so I can swap mine withere theirs.

Personally, I think it has a lot to do with the color of the car too. They look terrible, IMO, on black or green Maxima's. They just stand out too much. They look kind of odd on white Max's...

...beige Maxima's don't look good no matter what... (sorry, couldn't resist - j/k  )
