Got VI confirmation that it is on it's way....

VI left Japan today and my contact says it takes about 4 days if customs go well. So, the VI should be in either Saturday or Monday...or Tuesday at the latest. Just thought I would give everybody an update on that. Whatever day I get, I will spend that night installing it...and probably do a dyno run either Tuesday or Thursday afternoon if everything goes well, Saturday at the latest. I will probably start a group deal after everything is installed. By the way those that are concerned that it might not fit on a 95' or 96', which I don't think there will be a problem, because it is the exact same engine, we'll find out once I install it. I can't wait to get this thing. :D

Thanks for all your efforts John, it's much appreciated. You know I'll be down for one as soon as yours arrives. Good luck with the install.

Yeah, hopefully my friend and I won't run into many problems. But, I can't wait to feel the power and better yet to do a dyno run...I've never dynoed my car and I'm anxious to see what kinda of HP my car puts down.

95emeraldgxe May 1, 2002 08:24 AM

is this the same Middle East VA that everyone is talking about?

Mr Cranman May 1, 2002 08:32 AM

Yes this is the same one

This is the same one that I've posted about in several post. I'm just getting mine straight from Japan, rather than the Middle East. It will be $500 shipped to your door if your interested. And because, he ships it straight to your house, so I don't have to wait for a certain number of people to send in payment...once I get your payment I send it to my contact, he gets the part and ships it directly to you. It will take 4-6 weeks from when you send me the money to get the piece. And if you want to save $45 dollars you can have it shipped by sea but that takes an additional 4-6 weeks.

Also, people that are interested I will most likely be able to order the covers...to make the Engine Bay look nice and clean if people are interested. But, I don't have a price on them yet.

Damn, with your mods AND 5 speed, your car will be a freaking monster:D

Sheesh, you'll be chasing M3s, probably give a 2K2 6 speed a real good run for the money.

That is what I'm hoping for. :D I seriously can't wait for this mod.

I have to agree. You pretty much have the pinnacle of NA bolt-on modifications. I just hope you car is in tune and we can see what the 4th gen is really capable of...

So your source is solid and credible. Since RB, I am leery of overseas transactions and even of Ebay. No reflection on you of course, just the sources. Same concerns with the MEVI deals...

breaux124 May 1, 2002 10:14 AM

Sent you an email, but I'll ask here too.

How much of your cost was shipping? What additional parts are we going to need? Are you going to do a writeup?

I can't wait :D

Mr Cranman May 1, 2002 10:26 AM

I have ot say my source is credible.

Before I go I'm going to clean the air filter because here in NM we get a lot of crap in our air filters. But, I think everything should be fine, and tuned properly. But, we'll see w/the dyno numbers.

My source is solid and credible. He has been in business just shy of 4 years. I understand the apprhension. I was kinda a worried sening my money to someone overseas just for the fact of what happened with RB. But, the guy is really good. And, he emails you when he gets the money order and tells you how long it will be and emails you right when he ships it out. He has a really sound business practice.

you should do a dyno before you install and after. and if the price is right (which it sounds fine) then i will be down for one. this is so much safer the N20.....

He can do a before and after, but in reality all he has to do is enable or diable the switch. With it disabled it should act just like the stock 4th gen intake.

95maxrider May 2, 2002 02:44 PM

im also very interested, plus the cover too. when you get a price for those, and all extra parts you need, do a nice write up. it will be greatly appreciated.

Mr Cranman May 2, 2002 03:02 PM

I'll let everyone know.

Once I get the price I'll let everyone know. I will do a write up on this and get some pitchers taken also. I should hear back from my supplier tomorrow or Monday with the price for the cover to make the engine bay look cleaner

-John

Mr Cranman May 2, 2002 03:04 PM

I won't have the write up....

I won't have the write-up for putting the plastic cover on though because I didn't order that. But it should should be straight forward. :D

theres a switch on this thing?

Mr Cranman May 2, 2002 03:22 PM

The RPM switch...

There is the RPM switch so I could just set the RPM's to like 8000 or something or just disconnect the vacuum hose...so the VI doesn't open up. ;)

If you are comparing bang for the buck, nitrous will give you A LOT more power. But alas, nitrous and the variable intake are two totally different things...

VR6RACER May 2, 2002 08:22 PM

well after 20 tank fillups, Nitrous will cost a LOT more then the manifold, and NOS puts a LOT of stress on the engine.

That was my thought too. I figure the VI route will be cheaper and safer than a good NOS or NE set up once all the gauges and bottle refills are added in. I'd like to know how Mardigras Max does, I think I read that he has S/C, NOS and this VI. Holy Sheet. Hope he's got the limited slip to get all that to the ground.

lightboy May 2, 2002 09:12 PM

Im confused  u guys talk about this thing like its a god! All Im understanding is that its 5-10 hp for $500?!? and somehow this isnt just peak horse power but helps more or something?

The benefit to this mod is best explained by looking at it's curve. Look at the dyno results for the VI thread. This VI helps the engine breathe better at higher RPMs. Becasue it breathes better it continues to make more usable power in the higher RPMs. What this means is that you'll have a linear power line - your car will pull hard all the way to red line, whereas now, the car seems to pull its hardest between approximately 3500 through to 5300. So yeah, it's peak hp may only be 5-10 at the absolute highest point but when you compare the hp ratings at the higher rpms you'll see an increase of 20+ hp. Hope this makes sense. I've ordered one and can't wait to get it.:D

j0hnxt May 2, 2002 09:37 PM

what exactly is a v1?

You may also see it referred to as ME VI it's Middle East Variable Intake - the version of our cars overseas had a different intake plenum that opens up another set of intake runners at higher RPMs to make more power.

iansw May 2, 2002 11:57 PM

I am still tkaing orders for the ones directly from the ME.

But I can't get those covers.

Whaddya say you hook me up, Cranman?

First off 10hp at the wheels is really good for $500. I mean a full catback exhaust costs around that an only gives around 5hp at the wheels.

But in addition to that you have to look at the power curve. Most 4th gen maximas have peak HP at 5400 rpms, and then it drops off. With the VI it allows you to continually make more power from 5400 rpm to redline.

Example, from my dyno I make about 164 HP at 5400 rpms, but only about 148 at 6000 rpms. With the VI I'd make about 170 hp at 6000 rpms, which is +22HP over my normal manifold, but overall is only a 6hp peak gain.

So in every gear, you'll have power to redline.

Actually, it's easier just to disconnect the RPM Switches switched ground on the relay.

If anyone wants to see my Dyno, see my "4th Gen Variable Intake Dyno" Thread.

Very true (I'm on my 4th bottle and counting)...but you can't compare the power of N20 to this variable intake manifold! However, I do plan to get the manifold, too...:D it should further help my nitrous.

Mr Cranman May 5, 2002 03:39 PM

It should be in tomorrow.

Sorry, about no responses lately was at my inlaws for the weekend. Good thing is that the part should be in tomorrow. It got to Albuquerque early this morning...but of course USPS doesn't deliver Mail on Monday. And, I'm still waiting on the RPM switch. I should hopefully have the RPM swith on Tuesday or Wednesday. Once I get the RPM swith I will install it that day. It will be so nice to have the VI in my possession this week.

My contact is checking on the parts needed to get the cover, right now in Japan they are celebrating "Golden Week Holiday" And that is going from the April 27th to tomorrow. So, he will double check on the part numbers. But with the parts we looked at it was about $45 dollars for the cover. But should have the definite answer on that this week.

He also said that 10 orders or less should take 3 weeks to ship them out when he gets the order and anything over that will take 4 weeks to ship. Just and extra week if we are ordering over 10. Just to keep everybody informed.

For the last time -

www.cyberhub.net/intake

See the Dyno Graph and look at the diagram.

My GD closes Tuesday. Cranman's will probably be in a week or two, I expect.

Ian you should mirror my page so that people can see the gains a little more clearly (and you'll get fewer questions :) ). Mr. Cranman is taking orders on an individual basis from what I know. I am working with Keven97SE to see if we can figure out a few more things about how the VI could be installed/wired. I've also been wondering where speedtrip has been. Doesn't he have his hardware yet :goofy:
