I'm sacred of my max

I"m getting scared of touching my maxima cuz whenever I do, I get a strong static which I still can't get used to through all these years. Does this happen to everyone or is it just me?

HomeLan May 11, 2002 01:47 PM

Wow, must be a shocking experience. Sorry, can't say that I have experienced this.

sil SE May 11, 2002 01:56 PM

talk to it. yes, talk to the car. maybe you don't have the right chemistry going

EN_Maxima May 11, 2002 01:58 PM

No, but I get it in my dads Yukon a lot. It happens cause you rub your @ss on the seat which creates static electricity then you touch the metal door. My mom buys bounce dryer sheets or some brand and rubs the seats down with them. Takes away the shock for a while, and once you do it enough it should go completely away.

Happens to me all the time.. It only makes me nervous at the gas pump... Dude your cars fine... enjoy!

Resolution:
touch the car door first, before putting your feet on the ground outside the car. Then step out onto the ground, this should ground the static electricity, then you don't get shocked.

Yep, my 98 does it to. I have a format i go through when i get out of the car, and i do it so i don't look like an idiot. Usually when i get out of my car i lock the door, but i do it manually by flipping the switch on the door, then when i get out, i run my Forearm across the rim of the door which usually shocks it, but it bothers me less on the forearm then it does my finger tips.

Yah yah. the way I do is I tap the door really fast to see if I get shocked. Half the time I do. Maybe because I have sheep skin seats?

HomeLan May 11, 2002 02:50 PM

oh yeah, def. static electricity.

Nine7Max May 11, 2002 04:24 PM

I get shocked in my moms van. I never got shocked in my max, i guess its the leather?

we're talking about a little shock here, not a lighting bolt

solution? get leather seats :)

You can get one of those strips that hangs down off the back bumper of the car and drags on the ground.. it's supposed to discharge static electricity from the car... I forgot what they were called though:confused:

Those look pretty horrible flapping around. I've seen some people who have one that don't even reach the ground. But those people have big Nike symbols and type R badges all over their car- so we shall not go any further about those. A lot of import stores that sell those car air fresheners carry those fake fuba antennas. They look like the ones that come on VW GTI's and some passats, and like the one on Y2KevSE's max. Those have a contact with the top of your car and somehow reduces the static as you are driving. I really don't know the physics behind it, but it works.

So those are two choices you can try for reducing the static charge. It depends on personal preferences. If you don't like the looks then you can just ground yourself before you get out of the vehicle.

davey6693 May 11, 2002 09:53 PM

Another solution. Don't touch the door while getting out of your max, hold the metal part of one of your keys (near the plastic cover) and then touch the tip of the key anywhere on the body. The spark jumps from the key tip to the car body. It isn't the quantity of charge between you and the car that's a problem, it's the feeling it gives you when the charge jumps directly from your skin to the body. This explains why you won't *feel* a shock if you hold the car door before putting your feet down. Sorry, I'm bored.

Nismo May 11, 2002 11:22 PM

I seen some gadget thing that absorbs the static charge and it involves some wires and a little light bulb that uses up the static energy. Maybe theres some way to make your own at home?

yea, i was gonna sugest the same thing... Pice of rubber that hangs down to the ground.

Finality May 12, 2002 01:17 AM

One of my best friends has a similar problem he seems to get shocked by everything he touches

He has found the best way to discharge himself is to hold his house keys to the house door key hole to discharge himself, coming or going. Doesn't happen to him as often anymore :)

i dont get shock when i get into my SE, but my sisters GLE has silver handles and i get shocked when i get into her car.
