Thanks,

I'll let you know when they need to be changed... :D

Summary: good traction (especially wet) and they appear to last awhile... Best bang for the buck (i.e. not "the best" tire you can buy). KUHMO just came out with a new line... MX... max performance catagory... dunno if anyone has them yet.

Yup.. Best bang for the buck.. Many Honda Accord owners use it..
But IMO would go with Dunlop or my favorite Yokohama..

Thanks,

mine are going on 2 years this summer

Thanks,

Up here in Canada, they seem to be the best bang for the buck also..but you always hear that tale...you get what you pay for. But if they can last me for a two seasons, I will be happy.

All the other tires seem to be soo expensive.

I have the Kumho Ecsta 712's on my car now, going into the 2nd season using them....no problems whatsoever....I rotate the tires every other oil change, and so far, I haven't seen any real wear on them yet :)

theblue May 13, 2002 06:58 PM

I drive my kumbos hard and expect one season out of them including racing.

the 712 is a great performance tire but lacks the progressive grip of more expensive tire (i.e. I have grip, I have grip, I have grip - oh sh!t I have no grip) when being pushed to its limits.

so in conclusion they are great performance tires for the money and they will last a long time for a performance tire..

I have the 712s and the verdict is still out. I bought them last fall at the same time as my new rims--the price was right but the dealer warned me that Kumho has quality problems (whatever that means). He didn't carry them because of that but got them from his distributor for me since I was buying the rims and insisted on them. I can't decide if the vibration I'm getting is due to a defect in the tires, the rims or my alignment. I've had the tires balanced and an alignment and I still feel a slight vibration at highway speeds. Its livable but I'm not totally pleased. Not sure where the blame goes though. Everyone else around here seems to love them so its probably just my car. Otherwise the performance has been fine.

vin1024 May 14, 2002 10:52 PM

slight vibration=kumhos

these tires are incredibly inconsistent in tire to tire quality. plus they squeal like pigs in hard corners...

it is NOT WORTH the money you save on buying these tires. the hours and $$$ you spend troubleshooting them add up to more than just buying
good tires in the first place.

I think bridgestone s03s are 148 each. Kumho's are 98 each. I'm
talking 235 45 17s. In hindsight, I would lay down that extra
200 bucks. There are a lot of better tires out there than the Kumhos.

My Kumhos don't squeal. Could it be the difference in tire setup? I use 225/45/17 on 17x7s whereas most everyone else has 235/45/17s or bigger on larger rims.

I agree that the wet weather driving with Kumhos gets me very confident. Dry weather is good also. Nice balance. I guess in the dry other tires are probably a bit better. My previous Pirelli 7000SSes were better in the dry.

Also, I replaced my front pair with another set of kumhos. The wheel balance has never been quite right with those. I always thought it was the balance machine. Could it actually be the tires??

I don't know if its the kumhos or not. I got the rims from a dealer on the internet--they're supposedly oem 2k2 altima rims but now I'm wondering if they're refurbished or maybe not oem and are causing the vibration. Eventually i'm going to replace the kumhos and if the vibration is still there then i'll know for sure. Its really not bad though.

I hope you don't plan on driving on Kumho in Canada winters.

Re: KUMHOs

Got Kumhos on 18x8 Evos last week, and have since driven about 1000K on them (I drive 150Km to work 2-4 times a week), and have driven them in heavy rain as well.

So far, I can say I'm impressed with them. Going around corners I definitely feel more connected to the road, and can keep a steady speed rather than decelerate. I was riding on 215/55/16s before, so the increased handling could come from the tire size increase, but I'm sure in part due to the new Kumhos.

The rainy conditions were easily handled by the car, and I definetely felt confident with them.

That being said, I won't drive them come snow-time (Hakkapeliitas for that), and have noticed an increase in road noise from them (they're not the quietest tires), but given the massive sub I have in the back, I rarely notice that anyways. ;)

I'd recommend them, based on what I've seen so far, and the price I paid for them ($220 CDN for 235/40/18). I also don't drive them too hard, as I've lost 14 of 15 demerits on my license and can't afford to get busted :D

Rotate your wheels from back to front as a simple test.

I have had the Kumhos for 8000 miles now and they have been absolutely excellent. No quality problems whatsoever and the traction has been fantastic. They do appear to wear a little quick though. I estimate I'll get 25,000 mile from a set. But then I do drive very aggressively.

lefty May 15, 2002 10:35 AM

Thanks Guys,

I am replacing my tires as they have uneven wear from a pre-existing alignment problem and also I have a nasty VIBRATION that I think may be my RSA tires that came with the car.

I think I may still go with the Kumhos due to $$$ and will hope it works out.

And no, I will use my winter tires for the Canadian winter here...I spent my $$ on new rims and tires and it never really snowed here in Toronto.

All I can say is never buy Goodyear LSes the are so terrible... Especially after having Perrelli asymetricos, which I highly recomend.

harvey81 May 15, 2002 12:02 PM

as long as we're on the subject of tires, any opinions of or exerperience with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S or the Pilot XGT H4's...

NUGE May 15, 2002 03:44 PM

I was just about to order some Kuhmo tires, but now I might need to look into some other brand.

I had Falkens on my last two cars and would have bought them for the 17s on the max but I think they didn't come in a 45 series. I loved both sets I had previously but they were 55 series (one set on an Integra and one set on a S70). I never had any problems and performance was great.

re:falkens

thats good to hear, are falkens better than kumho's? bcuz i was getting an offer for a set of 17" rims and tires for 800 at a place but they only had falken tires and i never hud much about them so i was jus curious..i was gonna stick with the kumho ecsta 712 or dunlop sport A2 if i can find them for a good price. Which Falken series are good?

Thanks,

It depends on the treadwear rating (higher the better). If you go with a v speed rating it will last longer. Looking at your sig pic you do not have SE alloys. It looks like 15" steelies and hubs. If you do have the 16" alloys you can fit 225 series tires on those rims and I recommend it for a larger tire patch on the road. Especially, traction in a FWD, the tire patch can get really small in the front two tires under hard acceleration when the weight is shifted two the rear. ADvantage RWD.

I have them and I am very happy with them. Car handles great.

Good Luck, rotate and balance often
