Unpainted? A little late for that.... I didn't want it and it looks weird.

It's no problem, I had a cop follow me for 2 miles last night...

Thanks for the compliments... I had the idea in my head because the Skyline is my fav but I had only seen Sexima and the member with the vinyl do it (both looked awesome!!!)

Now take that piece out of your sig, and put that new pic in there. I hate the Veilside skyline kits.

Nice going Joe!

How many coats of paint did you do? Also, how many do you follow with wetsanding before you're done? I don't know much about painting, so I didn't really do an expert job on mine. I just gave it four good coats, then put several layers of clear coat. That's probably why they're still a little dull. I may have to take them off and redo them at some point... unless I can find a good paste wax to get me a decent shine.

Joe? It's Freddy

I did about 7 or 8 light light coats of paint and the same for clear. I would use the whole can of clear if you're not used to bodywork. The 1000 can take off a lot (down to the paint) if you're not careful.

What to do is get some 1000 and 1500 grit sandpaper (wet) and wetsand with the 1000 first, go over it with the 1500 until you can see a smooth shine when it gets wet from sanding (it'll looked waxed until it dries up quickly from the sanded clear).

Get some rubbing compound (I recommend 3M... Go to a bodyshop supplier).

Follow instructions and it will take out the 1500 grit scratches. WASH THEM OFF!!!!! (very important) and wax. I also recommend 3M show car wax. Cleaner wax is not really needed after the compound.

Good luck...

Oh. Sorry about that--somehow I thought your middle initial was for Joe and that's what you go by.

Anyway, thanks for the painting tips. I think I'm getting it now... the surface of the dried paint is naturally imperfect, so you need to lightly sand it down with very low abrasive paper (wetsand), then compound afterward so that you get a really smooth surface... I will definitely give it a shot. I'm guessing I should do a few more layers of clearcoat before I do it, so that there is enough of a layer to work with. Would you agree?

Have a great Memorial Day weekend, Freddy!

good to see they turned out well. I couldn't get mine to get that shine like the rest of the body but oh well, it don't bother me or anyone else who's complimented me on them, so....

I'm not a fan of altezzas just because of the "persona" that goes along with theM? "rice this rice that" anyway i like the way it looks not to flashy just somethning a little unqiue...

Now, i would really like tto see that on a ROSEWOOD MAXIMA! if smoeone has a **** load of time, would they photoshop altezzas onto a rosewood maxima that are filled in, no chrome!!

Cool

and for all the flamers.. blah!

I see them on a ROSEWOOD MAX everyday !! cuz there mine ! i would show them, but I have no digital camera, or any camera for that matter. But I think they look great. Mine aren't as perfect as FJC's but it's hardly noticeable. A lil less chrome than his tho. The outer ones can only be chromeless to a certain extent.

Very nice. Too bad you can't paint the inside, so you can cover up the chrome inner part of the outer lense.

You too bro...

The dried paint is imperfect... exactly. The proper way to do it is to use an air gun. It layers it like an airbrush but we are stuck with cans and I didn't want to bother my buddy at his shop. I wouldn't add any more coats of clear unless you didn't already sand it... What I mean is that the clear should not go over any surface that has been touched. You can try it but remember, the scratches that may (or may not) be on there now will be below the "new" clear coat. You will definately see it in the finished product. You would be better off wetsanding, painting, clear all over again.

Either way, I think your's look excellent... Leave them how they are. You put some good work into them and they look awesome.

Actually, the little chrome adds a nice blend to match the door handles and chrome window border.

Actually I have a GXE/SE wannabe. Blame Andy

Yes, I did the outside just like you'd paint the car body. I masked the circles freehand tracing the circles.

3M makes good autobody tape for flexing...

Nope. It's just masking tape. Get the blue colored one (Home Depot). It's pretty much the same thing.

The tape has flex so it bends into a perfect circle. It's very easy.
