afaik, there aren't any recalls on the 96 maxima.

there was a service campaign of sorts, but i forget exactly what for...it was done to my car before i bought it (used). search and you'll find info about it

I recall one being about the O2 sensors. Check the NHTSA site.

Mine were changed on my 96 as well. The orig owner gave me the recepit. They were done in '99 at 53k

No charge on the bill.........

Maybe they were a drivability update, while the car was still under warranty.
Nissan aint gonna do them for you now because the car is so far out of the warranty....

The recall obviously only affected certain VINs in that year. If you didn't receive a recall notice don't worry about it.

It wasn't a recall, it was a service bulletin. An O2 sensor problem.

When I had my '96 GXE (RIP, but got a '97 SE now), I had taken it to Elkins Nissan in Shreveport LA for the AC compressor making noise. The AC compressor was still under warranty, but they had to order it. But while it was there, they replaced two O2 sensors and some purge control valve (or something like that) for free. They said those parts were under a recall, and it even said that on an invoice they gave me with a $0 money owed. I'll look for that invoice if I still have it to see if there are any recall numbers or anything on it. But as it was said earlier, it may have only affected certain VIN's. I only know what that dealership said and did.

I had this campaign done at 80k miles, when I filled up the gas tank the CEL would come one and they replaced a bunch of emissions stuff so call the main nissan number (don't know off the top of my head) and check it out.

I called 800-nissan1 after a dealer had told me to bring my car in for the recall and then after i got there a week later they told me my car is too old so they can no longer do it. Nissan America told me that its not exactly a recall but an extension of warranty. The initial warranty is like 36/30,000 miles or something, and nissan extended the warranty on the emission system to 60/60,000. My car is a 95 with 150K and most likely the original o2 sensors. I am getting tired of the run around and i am just going to do it myself, buyoxygensensors.com, pretty cheap overthere, laters...

They must have told you some BS, because like I said in my post I had mine done at 80k so I don't know why they wouldn't do yours. I don't know if it's really called a recall or a campaign, hell we might be talking about two different things here.
