pic of blue LED's on stock gauge cluster

I took out my reverse indiglo gauges. I got tired of them. A bit too flashy for me. Anyway, I left the blue LED's in. Here'a pic of how they look on the factory gauge cluster. As you can see, maybe because they're LED's, the light tend to concentrate more on one spot. Yes, a bit odd, but they'll have to do.

thats looks pretty good....its just that the light concentrates on one spot is bothering me

Yep ... that's what my cluster looked like ... except red.

I got rid of the LEDs after one of them blew and put in all orange regular 194s ... liked that a whole lot better.

You're using the extra-bright 4-LED correct?

I'm using the 1-LED and it comes out perfect, no hot spots like what you have in the pic.

The 1-LED has an inverted cone tip to disperse the light much like a regular bulb ... does a pretty good job, credit to multiplexor, he sent me some pics and I got them based on his pics. Just put them in yesterday.

I have all red 194's. It's a nice deep, even red...

ripper7 Jun 20, 2002 07:12 PM

Yes, I'm using the 4-LED ones. I got the 1-LED's too, but it seem a bit dimmer than the 4-LED ones.

Dimmer yes, hot spots no.

I've been staring at my gauges for a while, the lower right of the speedo (where it tops out) is just slightly dimmer than the rest but very very very very slightly.

Did I say very slighty? ;)

It's bright enough with the dimmer control turned all the way up, so I prefer uniformity.

The problem is I only got two of the 1-LED bulbs, not enough. So these will have to do for now.

Stupid questions...

What LEDs are known to last longer? Which brands are known to SUCK? Also...

If I want to try to replicale the indigo color of VW gauges, can I do 2 red and 2 blue leds, or will it look striped? Thanks...

Are you talking about the "Euro Reverse indiglo" guages? If so, you looking to sell em?

White LED's behind SE Gauge Cluster

I don't have a pic available right now...but I have all white 194 size LED bulbs behind my SE gauge cluster...and as a matter of fact it emits a light bluish color at night...not white what i thought it was going to be. Peculiar...maybe someone can explain the physics on this?

You're using the amber/orange 194 bulbs now? Does it look like the BMW guage color? I was thinking of going with red 194s, but I was afriad that I would get a pinkish color. Any thoughts?

And OT: Who's that girl in your sig pic...snap a shot of your girl by surprise?:D

Hey I was wondering if it is hard to do, and where can I buy the 194?

clee130 Jun 21, 2002 03:23 PM

Albertt ... well ... I have no Maxima right now, but when I did have it, it had orange/amber 194s in ther gauges yes.

It's not as bright as the BMW's, but it was somewhat close. You should know: different companies have different sucess in making bulbs look good. I some cheap orange bulbs and while they were orange, they weren't "orange enough".

I'm sure you can find some deep oranged colored bulbs out there.

Don't have pics, sorry. I always meant to take pics, but never got around to it.

My red 194s turned purple after a while. :slant:

And the girl is just some internet girl's picture I stole from another website. And no I don't know the website. :D

Extremely easy to change the gauge bulbs, granted your car is a 95-96:

http://www.geocities.com/amixam69/nissan/dash/

And you can buy 194s almost anywhere. Depends on what you want though. Do a search, it's been talked about plenty of times before.

DaThrillr Jun 21, 2002 03:50 PM

are there any write ups for a 98? i want these also :D

It will look striped. One bulb illuminates the fuel meter, there are 2 for the speedometer (one for the left half and one for the right), one for the left half of the tachometer and one more for both the right half of the tachometer and the temp. guage.

I have the blue single-LED 194s from autodynamic, and they look pretty good. A tiny bit dim, but not an issue for me at all. I was afraid to get the brighter 4-LED package because of the hotspots, and now I'm glad I didn't (they are more expensive, too).

My light is also a tiny bit dimmer between where it says 120mph and 140mph... I think that's just how the light diffusing plastic is inside the cluster. A little annoying, but hardly noticeable :)
