Find the upper radiator hose. Follw it towards the engine. You will see two brass sensors with wires attach to them. The sensors are screwed into this aluminum water neck. Those are the coolant temp sensors. One is for the gauge and the other one is for the ECU.

The ECU gets to know that actual coolant temp. When we read the gauge, we get three options:

cold - needle down
warm - needle in the middle
hot - needle up

From the hose - The first sensor is for the temp gauge, the second sensor is for the ECU.

How can u tell if the one for the ecu has gone bad?
