2k2 won't rev over 4500 rpm

Today while I'm driving, if I press accelerator all the way down, my rpm will stuck at 4500 and you can hear frankencar intake going so loud & mph just stay the same. However, if I just press the accelerator a lil bit (as long as not passing 4500rpm), I was able to get the car to 100 mph. do you guys know why? :bawling:

MaximaZero Jul 16, 2002 02:02 PM

could it possibly be the MAF? and how long did it take you to get to 100 only going up to 4500 rpm?!

[maxi-overdose] Jul 16, 2002 02:12 PM

hmmm...that's new...though blown maf only trapped ur rpm to 2.4k.

what happened at 4.5k? does it go further a bit and then got kicked back to 4.5k? or it just dead there with ur pedal to the floor mat?

double check on franken and make sure all connections are good.

i stopped on the side of the road to check it, all the connections seem to be okay for frankencar. around 4.5 with pedal to the floor, it'll just stay there and the speed also stay the same

i don't know if its the MAF, i really don't know much about cars. As for the 2nd question, actually I think before I reach 45mph (around there), I have no problem. Once I pass about 45mph, thats when I start to have problems. If I have time, I'll bring the car to the dealer tomorrow, should I change my intake back to stock? btw, I think I lost some screws for my stock intake, what should i dO?

BioMaxDDS Jul 16, 2002 08:27 PM

someone PLEASE HELP ME
i tested it out again tonight, it doesn't matter at what speed, I can't rev past 4500-5000rpm. once I get there, rpm will either stuck there until I release accelerator OR the car will jerk back & forth a lil bit than shift to next gear
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME :bawling:

that i'm not sure. I just remember bringing the recall letter in with my car to get it fixed. Do I have to worry about my frankencar intake? cuz I lost some of the screws for my stock intake, so its kind of hard to put it back. Does anyone know where I can buy those? thanks

BioMaxDDS Jul 16, 2002 09:37 PM

btw, I still need to drive the car about 60miles (back & forth) for school. Is it safe to drive it?

try to put the stock airbox back and see if the problem still presist. If it is, straight back to the dealer.

Sure, call DaveB.. he is very reasonable about like 2 day Fedex.. or USPS. Or another local dealer's part dept. the parts dept and service wont really connect the dots there.. not that it really matters if they did..

oh..hmm its safe to drive i woudlnt keep hiting the wall at 4000+rpm tho..i dont think the car likes that..i suggest...slide off your K&n and wipe your finger on the air filter adaptor...the silver peice...hopefully its not oily....because i belive that was the culprit of my problems. But..if you even thinkg aobut going to the dealer....take that intake out..or they'll simply close your hood...Logg it into your cars' history..and there goes your warantee....yes they hafta prove your intake caused the problem but f*ck the hassle. Just put it back to stock so they cant say anything. Let me knwo what happens..i made the mistake of unplugging it..and it threw a open circit code...so they just reset mine..i did clean my MAF with some air intake cleaner onna cotton swab..and it did help it! althought performance is still not like it used to be. I plan to take it in soon to have it looked at further.

An Air Intake cannot affect the warranty of a vehicle.

It's Federal law...Says so on every K&N Package, and basically every aftermarket Air Filter I've ever seen.

chinanitrous......I just cleaned my K&N filter about 2 weeks ago, I guess that's the problem. I gotta to go school now, i'll see what I can do when I come back. thx alot

2K2_6spd Jul 17, 2002 06:40 AM

Spray the element down with brake cleaner, this works better than throttle cleaner cause it dries instantly. Try not to touch it with anything if you can help it. I clean my Mustang's mass air quite a bit using this method and have never had a problem.

I think what K&N meant is that you have a selection of brands of filters. but if u altered manufacture's design by taking out the stock air box...nissan has the right to void the warranty....if they can determine that is the cause of the problem.

element? MAF?

On the black factory pipe between your frankencar Pipe..and Frankencar Airfilter adaptor....is a black plastic pipe with a Plug sitcking out of it. THat is plugged into your MAF...bascially a sensor..there is a "element" in it....which is in the path of the airflow. I belive the way it works is that as it cools it detects more air flow...etc.... With some oil on it it probably doesn't have the correct reading...and its flipping out...causing you not to be able to rev higher under load.

am I going to be able to take the "ELEMENT" out to clean it? or just use a cotton ball to stick it in there to clean it?

well your gonna see 2 torx bits..(like a star shaped screw) once you take that out..you'll see waht were talking about...its 2 paper clip wire lookign things on it...just follow ppl's directions...if you do use a cotton swab...be very very gentle.

chinaonnitrous1 Jul 17, 2002 05:13 PM

by the way..i took another few minits to re-wipe my MAF elements with a cotton swap drenched with AirIntake cleaner...and yup its back to normal....screeching through 2nd gear shift...and almost chirping third. I cleaned it once before and it got me to rev to redline but very slowly...now i cleaned it again..and *poof* all better. :D

I used qtip trying to clean it, didn't get much oil out the thin wire you told me to clean, and it didn't work, i still can't rev beyond 4500rpm. I guess I'll try again tomorrow :(

must use some sort of cleaner..mainly Air Intake cleaner....or Brake cleaner (as used by others) I used intake cleaner in a red spray can....cleaned out my throttle body too. If you just cotton swab it....nothing really de-greasees it..which is what needs to be done.
