Going in for Tint in the morning....I'm Scared..(Updated) pics are in

Well I finally decided on a tint today. I'm taking the Max to get 35% Formula one Premier tint(metal) put on. I looked at 3m, solarguard, madico, all the ones out there. I'm getting the dot Matrix tinted..I know I've done the searchs and read what has been said about it but I'm willing to sacrafice some AM reception for looks. The place I picked is in Oakville ontario. They do all the work for the local BMW, Jag.,Lexus,infinity..... I went there today and they had a brand new M3 in there SWEEEEET, Had the shifter paddles behind the steering wheel. The guy told me go ahead and sit in it.I didn't sit too long as I didn't want to drool on the seats Anyway they all say I will love the premier tint with the stirling mist,I guess it is something like Platinum plus
I will post pics tomorrow after the job and let everyone know how it looks.
P.S. Before pics are on the homepage....sig. pic is photoshop tint....(update sig is new pic of tint)

Update......pics are up! page 2 of home page.

Post pics ASAP. I'm thinkin about getting my 2K2 Sterling Mist tinted next week and I want to see how your's turns out. Are you getting everything tinted or just the back windows and the rear? It sucks how the count the small window on our rear doors a whole window.

I'm also thinking about getting 35% form.1 tint. I have a light interior so hopefully I won't be getting Fu(ked w/ by the Po Po.;)

Formula 1 Tint

I was a little worried myself. I was wondering the same thing. I ended up with the exact same tint....however I ended up going with the F1 Premier 28%. The shop I went to did an excellent job. I did all the windows and 28% is the max legal in Colorado. The tint job turned out to be great. The shop did talk me into the 28%. I went in after giving it much thought, planning on getting the 35%, but was talked out of it. The said that most of their customers that go with 35%, end up wishing they went darker. My take is the 28% worked out just fine with my color combo (White w/frost). I did NOT want the real dark look, and the 28% worked out fine....although I still sometimes think the 28% is a hair too dark for what I wanted. But not disappointed. F1 is nice stuff! Also a concern I had was about the radio reception with the "metallic" film. I had heard of some, reporting loss of reception. Well I think I have a very slight reduction in reception, but nothing to be concerned about. I'm sure you'll be fine, and please post some pics, because I'd definitely like to see thet 35% tint!

Those with a light interior, i have a Majestic Blue w/ Frost. Depending on the angle it's either easy to see inside or not (Pics below), i wish i could get darker but 35% is the legal # around here for side windows with approx. 30% as being the "not very noticeable unless you get tested" number.

The rear glass is 20% to help keep the heat down, and i have yet to experience FM signal degradation. Speaking of heat, the F1 tint really does a good job of keeping it out and i'm glad it does. :)

As for the front windshield, it's illegal to have it tinted but i have two options:

1) Get a medical certificate from my Opthalmologist
2) Get a 99.99% heat rejecting tint

i would not tint the dot matrix cause the film doesn't adhere to it that well.

Tint Job

RNT.....looks good. Now I sorta wish I would have gone with the 35% myself. Either way...nice tint.

AIX Aug 2, 2002 08:33 AM

thumbs up!~ :D tints look great!

mike-777 Aug 2, 2002 08:36 AM

Beware, you will loose all AM reception if tinted over the dot matrix with metalic film.

Also, look for exacto blade scratches on your rear window. Mine had lots and I had to get the tinter to hire a glass polisher to try and polish them out.

A real pain and they never came all the way out.
Another sign of the cheap glass in these cars.
The tinter said he very rarely sees this happen.

not true. my AM reception is fine and i've got metallic tint over the dot matrix.

rntmax02 Aug 2, 2002 08:56 AM

they tinted overmy dot matrix with metallic and AM is fine.... no cuts done on the windows as tint is precut by computer.
Thay have a program called tintek that is a data base for all vehicles windows. They input your vehicle type and all the window paterns come up on the screen..highlight the ones you want and the computer and plotter cut out all the windows exact. No need to trim on the vehcle and He said it is dead on for maxima. They just lay them on....entire job took 1.5 hrs
