I was behind a new baby blue M5 this morning on the Interstate when a Crust-ang pulled up next to him and after a couple seconds the stang floored it.....Next thing I know, the 400 HP M5 unleashes its fury. The M5 cathes and blows by the Mustang as if it was a lion chasing down a tethered goat. That car is awesome...Easily the best stock 4 door sedan out there today..Only downside it that it is about 3 times as expensive as the Maxima.

But I didn't buy my Maxima to drag race anymore....I use to have a 400 HP modified 3rd generation RX7 when I was in that stage...12 sec flat 1/4 mile.

But one blown engine later(As is the case with all RX'7s)I got something a lot more reliable with a lot more room.
But I digress......

mzmtg 12-13-2000 02:02 PM

Damn right.....

tomz17 12-13-2000 02:15 PM

Poor Mustang... Driver was a moron.. (The M5 looks rather inconspicuous, perhaps he was "judging a book by it's cover")

BMW's are awesome... if only I had the money for an M5.....

(I say M5, because I considered the Z8 for a split second... but promptly changed my mind when I realized that my first accident in a Z8 would prolly be my last)... You run into a damn Kia, Focus, Or Metro with a Z8, and you'll STILL die.. Besides, the Z8 is a BIT on the expensive side (like the M5 isn't.. right?? :-)

All in all, Dream car still remains a McLaren F1 LM... I would take 680Bhp ANYDAY!!

M5

If I could pick a car under $80K, I think it would be that M5.....Huge tires....Refinement....Speed..4 doors....Sweet...

Y2KevSE 12-13-2000 05:44 PM

Got to sit in one at the SF Auto Show last month... it was definitely very sweet. Now if I could just come up with the cash.....

TRD SoIara 12-13-2000 05:45 PM

Yea, I have a friend who had an M5, he took out some pretty nice cars with that machine. I remember one particular 99 or 2000 porsche 911 (not the twin turbo one). The cars were evenly matched, but the M5 pulled cus I guess my friend's a better driver.

Anyhow, the best 4 door manual in the world has got to be the M5 and the best 4 door auto has got to be the MB E55. I'd want either =)

Compton-

I traded my stock 3rd gen in for a 2K 5spd SE. Ohhh, how I miss that car (no blown engines). Got to drive a friends in Chicago last week :D. Have you checked out the RX-8? With 9" of snow here in St.Louis today, I was glad to be driving a Maxima. The 17" stock tires did fine (almost makes up for not being able to pull .98g like the RX).

tomz17 12-13-2000 06:28 PM

The stock tires are NOT as bad as some people here would have you believe.. In Dry conditions, they are definitely above average (as far as sedan tires go). However, I HAVE seen better in slippery conditions.. (Note : for my needs, they are "Satisfactory".)

RX8?

***Have you checked out the RX-8?

I didn't even know that existed.....I'm assuming it is a Japan only car....

Have you all noticed how most of the sports cars have disappeared? (ie 300z, 3000GT, stealth, RX7, supra)

The RX7 was hella fun to drive...But hella expensive!!

It got to the point where I was scared to drive the thing cause I was afraid something was going to blow up...

Compton 12-13-2000 07:57 PM

RX7

RX7 Motor to replace blown one: $5000
2000 Maxima SE, all options: $25,900

Piece of mind owning a nice car under warranty: Priceless!

MrBurner 12-13-2000 07:59 PM

Do you have any pictures of the new supra. I havn't seen or heard about it yet.

MrBurner 12-13-2000 08:05 PM

nope, haven't seen or heard anything about it yet either

68Stang 12-13-2000 08:07 PM

Toyota should just pick up where they left off. The only thing I would change on the supra is the interior styling.

Compton 12-13-2000 08:13 PM

Sports cars

I think they stopped making all those sports cars cause they were very expensive ($35,000+) and they only sold 3000-20000 of them per year...Its hard to cover your fixed costs of an assembly line/plant selling that little.

Also the old supra's and rx7's used to be less than $20k...Then the new ones came and were almost double that. Most previous loyal buyers couldn't afford them and so only new customers bought those cars...

davis449 12-14-2000 07:45 AM

Someone said that their dream car was a McLaren F1? Well then your dream car is still a Bimmer. That's right, 627hp BMW engine in a McLaren F1.

tomz17 12-14-2000 08:04 AM

I know... the F1 LM actually has 680bhp.. But I didn't think that BMW used those V12 engines in production cars.. do they??

TAGURIT 12-14-2000 12:49 PM

actually they put a la mans(pardon my french)engine in the

new x-5 and they said it was faster than a viper plus it

made 700hp plus gobs of the tourque monster.

tomz17 12-14-2000 01:05 PM

Ya.. but that's a 1 of a kind vehicle... there are about a 100 McLaren F1's out there, and 5 F1 LM's....

Beside, the X5 is in an SUV form, so its bound to be heavy... Still I wouldn't mind having an SUV with 700 hp!!!! [think of how many gallons that v12 burns!!!]

VQracer 12-14-2000 01:16 PM

i think

1 of the 7th series bimmers use V12s

04 maxse 12-14-2000 01:18 PM
