Moving power driver's seat to passenger side
 

I have the power driver's seat and a manual passenger seat. I plan to get a racing seat for better support, but I don't want to just throw the power seat away. I'm wondering if it would be possible to move the driver's seat over to the passenger's side. I know I'd have to extend some wiring and maybe even move the rails. Does this seem possible?

You'd also have to switch the side that the controls are on!

i say just leave it covered in plastic bags and store it somewhere.. it'll save some weight too..

Well, I only drive like a maniac when it's just me in the car, so two seats would be a waste. I think it'd be cool to just have the driver's race seat, like everything is tuned to the driver.

I think there's enough clearance between the seat and the center console to leave the controls where they're at. If I'm wrong, I'll move them to the front of the seat or to the other side.

How do you remove the front seats? Just four bolts? What size are they?

I would just leave the seats the way they are and pull my seatbelt tight. :D

If weight was an issue, I'd remove the 100 lbs of audio and sports equipment from the trunk :D.

Honestly, I paid for the power seat, so I'd like to be able to use it, if possible. I know there is an option to have a power seat on the passenger side, so hopefully it is pre-wired for the option. I'd just have to move the seat and rails and connect the wiring.

Yep, four bolts. Probably 10-12mm. I removed both front seats once when I was running audio wiring under the main carpet. It wasn't very difficult to remove them. Kind of scary if you think about it.

That'd be fine for forward movement, but side to side is what I'm concerned about. Besides, I don't want to wrinkle my clothes :p.

Don't all 5th gens have a power drivers seat? I don't think you paid extra for it, did you?

The seatbelt latch on the driver's seat is on the right side. If you move the driver's seat to the passenger's side you might have to swap the seatbelt latch off of the passenger's seat...if it is possible. The seats might be made to be put on either side of the car...with holes for bolts etc. on each to make them interchangeable.

I thought it was a part of the C&C package?

It was for '00 & '01. Now standard on all '02 & '03's

Actually the power seat was also on GXE's with comfort and convenience package. Mine has it :) . Comfort and convenience package doesn't even exist on the '02 & '03's...everthing that was in that package is now STANDARD.

Cool, well back to the point, I paid for it on my 00, so I'd like to keep it and move it to the passenger side. I'm getting some good info here, so keep it up folks.

What about the control pannel? If you move it to the right side of the seat then the controls would either have to be upside down (so the fore and aft are correct)....or backwards!! I guess all that depends on IF you CAN move the controls.

If you can move them, and if you have to move them due to clearance issue, I'll try to move it to the front of the seat so the controls are oriented perpendicular to their normal position. It's not like you adjust that seat that often anyways. Maybe I'll extend the wires and make the control block into a hand-held control. Then I can put the block in the glove compartment and the passenger can take it out if they need to adjust their seat.

I think you only get a passengers power seat with Leather.

Why not just rebolster(sorry can't spell) your stock seats?
add some support to the sides and lumbar.
and you could even change the colour!

Just have the seat facing the other way. That solves both your seatbelt and control problems. :)

How do you rebolster your seats, stuff the sides with paper towels? I don't think it can reliably be done, and will look ghetto anyways. Racing seat provides better support and it's a lighter.

How about keeping it in your garage? Having a racing seat would be pretty cool and you'll definitely gain the benefit of better support.

However, don't you think there'll come a time where you'd just want to put the racing seat on when you're actually racing and the regular cushy seat when you're cruising?

Though i don't know which seat you're looking for, but the the one in our RSX is pretty close in terms of stiffness and support - and you'll never catch me riding in it for any extended periods of time.

Is it really that uncomfortable? I like to be comfortable, even when driving like a nut. I'm looking at the Sparco Torino or one of the padded seats that are reclinable, so I'm hoping they aren't too uncomfortable.

I'm assuming the Sparco would be slightly more comfy. But if it's anything like that of the RSX i'd be crazy to call it comfy. Supportive - hell yeah! Comfy? No way.

Pro-Am over in Bissonnet has some seats in their "lobby" that you can try out. Might be worth visiting one of these days.

I dont think you can swap them. The left rear screw hole is offset on the driver side, and the right rear screw hole is offset on the passenger side. You would probably have to modify the mounting bracket on the driver seat to move it over. And then change it back if you ever wanted to put it back.

To say nothing of moving all the switches.

Good point, forgot about that. I could just use three of the bolts to hold the seat in place. Might be kind of unsafe though. Of course, I never sit in the passenger seat so what would I care?
