I have a fully loaded 2K SE and negotiated 1 1/2 hours until I got the price I was willing to pay. My objective was to get below the invoice price. It was a long day but well worth it! I'd like to think that I got a good deal but I won't know until I hear from others.

Let me know the deal you got and after I receive the responses (and researched on the legality of running such an analysis), I'll share the results. Can't tell at this time when I'll have it ready since it's contingent on how quickly I receive responses.

Thanks for participating.

you cant really compare price directly...

there are alot of factors.. like trade-ins and whatnot. Some parts of the country are selling better than others. Some dealers are getting invoice plus, others are under invoice by a few hundred dollars. Paying invoice +/- $300-400 is the norm. I havent heard of too many people paying full retail. If they did, then there was probably a waiting list for them. There was when I bought mine. I paid a few hundred over.

Maximas in my area...

are selling faster than the dealers can stock them. Its not uncommon for a fully loaded SE with all available options to sell for around 27K to 29K. Yes, you heard right. A Fully loaded GLE is around the same price range, and a GXE is around 23K. Its nuts here, which in my opinion is a good thing. My father bought his 2K SE about November of 99 and his was 27K (Auto, but sans leather). Some areas of the country they seem to sell with more incentives. In my opinion, even if a Maxima sold for 30K with a few odds and ends would still be a worthwhile price.

Got my 2K GLE about two weeks ago. Almost fully loaded, only thing not on it was a 6CD changer and the gold badges. After adding transportation and advertising fee, wound up paying $250.00 under invoice. Checked against actual invoive from dealer and from invoive price listed on Edmunds.com. Car was on the lot over 90 days, so the dealer did not get any break on the holdback.

Good price may have been since we had just bought a 00 Sentra GXE for our daughter abount two weeks before the Maxima (her 94 Corsica was totaled - no injuries) at about $100.00 under invoice.

I paid $500 under invoice for my SE before taxes and title. I didn't have to negotiate too long though. If you go in there with a print out of the invoice prices off the internet, it makes things easier.

Negotiate

I didn't have to negotiate any. I brought in my VPP form from work and paid 4% over dealer cost. I bought my 2K Crew Cab the same way. Much easier and no haggling.

I might have been taken...

I paid like 24,700 for an auto se, no sunroof, no leather, no bose. This was in March.

Under invoice

I got my SE with Auto, Comfort & Convenience, Bose, and Leather for $500 under invoice. Around $25K. It was the last day of March this year and the sales guy was anxious for another sale before the month end. Plus it does help to know the invoice price etc.

dont feel taken...

dont compare your deal against others. Just too many factors to weigh. + or - invoice, its a good car for the money. Just be happy and enjoy the drive. One in the hand is worth two on the, errrr internet, so to speak.

I've noticed that sometimes the phrase 'you get what you pay for' comes into play. Not always, but often a dealer who costs the most also has the best service and staff. if you paid a bit more, expect a bit more from where you bought it. Dont hesitate to throw that back at them if they give you a hassle.

according to the invoice prices at edmunds, i ended up paying about $200 under invoice. i thought that was a fair deal, and i'm ecstatic about my max.

I got me 2K 5sp SE for 24,175 in the bay area. Not bad considering I was having a very hard time finding a 5sp to begin with!

i got ripped off

or did i not?? i payed 31,200 out the door (including t&c) this was on june 29th of 99

TimW Sep 7, 2000 12:43 PM

well.. you cant count tax and title...

that seems high. I paid 26.5K-ish back in July 99 /GLE everything but changer, including meridian package. But I basically paid cash, and bought a pathfinder LE at the same time.. Did you have a trade in? Did they pad your sale price to give you more for your car? i suspect thats what happened.

about 1% over invoice

White 2000 GLE - Leather (done locally through dealer), floor mats, spoiler. total price with options, tags, tax, & whatever was $23,450. (less than 1% over invoice by my calc)
bought in december of 1999. they had two (white ones) on the lot. so did the other dealers in town (salt lake city). haggled between the three over the phone and finally called it a done deal when the "garantee to beat any price guy" could only beat it by 3 dollars. Then i bought it from the guy closest to me (where i test drove it). during negotiations i always got the 'out the door price' so that there were no surprises (read: bogus advertising or whatever they call it fees) This also accounted for any discrepancy in the local sales tax (a few mils maybe?). funny when i got up into the finance office the guy had the wrong number written up on the contract as if i wouldn' notice. told him i'd wait while he changed it.
***got it with no money down and 2.9% financing through NMAC. = $420 month for 5 years.

It pays off...I paid 2k below invoice! Really lucky with the timing and the desperation of the dealers. They were having a huge weekend sale/promo and fortunately for me, turn out was low due to bad weather. Went there final day of sale and got what I asked for!

You can check http://www.carsdirect.com and http://www.enissan.com for typical pricing. Cars direct does a good job at guaging the market. Of course when buying new, print off the pricing and at least have the dealer match it. Beat it is perfered of coarse. ;)
