Why are civics so fast?
 

I had two good runs tonight with a decked out civic. While I contiually pulled on him in my auto 2k2, he did manage to keep up for a good til around 60 or so. It wasn't even an ex. I guess a win is a win, but man do they have some aftermarket support. Why are they so fast?

sounds like an engine swap to me.

you could throw every bolt on there is pretty much on a civic and still only hit high 15's. it sounds like this civic was either boosted or had a swap. the reason they are so fast with swaps is that, most cars a civic will swap with like prelude integra accord and such are heavier cars, so now the civic would have all the motor power of those cars, plus less weight. its all about the power to weight ratio:)

not neccessary,i know this guy has a 97 hatchback with a B16 swap from a 99SI,he already run 14 high stock,who know what those thing will run with cams,header,intake and..........,those thing got so much more support than our max,:mad:

Civics have a lot of decals on them too and those can add like 10 hp right there. Altezzas, big wings and washer nozzle lights add a crap load of power as well, especially on Civics! :D :D :D

i need to find that guy that kept up with you and see what he has done to his car, mine is slow as poop. i got pulled by an explorer and caravan :laugh:

There is a guy in ATL(Henry County) with a Civic Hatch, not sure what trim level. But he has a B-18 C5, and he runs a 13.2 on street tires. The entire interior is stripped and the only other mods are intake and exhaust. Completely NA

I saw an all motor civic hatch with a B16C run high 12's on slicks

a B18C5 is the integra type-r engine, not too many people do this swap mainly cause fo the $5000 tag on the JDM engine,tranny, and ecu. the most familiar swap you will see in the 92-95 is the B18C1, that is the integra GSR motor which has 180 hp. you add some bolt on and cams and other stuff and you can get around 200hp to the wheels.

that and the fact that the B18C5 has very high compression and is not boost or Nitrous happy

yes that true, but the only advantage the B18C5 has over the B18C1 is the head. other wise anyone who wants to things right buys the cheaper B18C1 and then upgrades it with the money you save and then you have a faster B18C1.

Also someone mentioned a B16C, that engine doesnt exisit, you either ment the B18C (JDM GSR) or the B16B (JDM Civic Type-R)

another combo noone brought up is the Integra LS engine, B18B (or B18A)
people swap in those engines really cheap then take the low stock CR and boost the hell out of them. for a cheap turbo instal this is the most popular. next time you line up next to a modded civic check for the FMIC. if you see that then your in trouble.

i thought the LS motor was a 1.6 L engine..

no all Integra LS engines are 1.8L
in fact the only Integra engine i can think of that wasnt a 1.8 was the 93 Integra GSR with a B17A (1.7L)

the only hondas that come with a 1.6L B series stoch is the Civic Si and the Del Sol VTEC. there are other 1.6L engines but they are D series and dont put out nearly as much hp.

I got beat in the 1/8th by a civic my first time out. He got a 9.5. It was a piec of crap old civic. Last night I was starting to walk him quite a bit once the mph got up there.

My friend has a 90 Integra with a Frankenstein engine, he's got the LS bottom end and the GSR head. With cams and pistons and a whole bunch of other stuff. Mid 13's for him all the time. That car is quick.He just got a vtec tranny installed now, which allows him to stay in vtec when he shifts. His vtec is two staged(I think) and it goes from 4500-8500. He's putting a wet nitro shot too, 90 hp, that car is going to be insane.

there are definatly some civics that can haul. a buddy of mine actually has the integra LS swap in his 95' ex. and he has all the bolt ons with a 5speed integra swap as well. he ran a best of 14.9 at the track, hes getting a turbo soon, but that engine and tranny swap only cost him like 3800 not bad huh? and theres this other guy around here with a civic hatchback with GSR swap and turbo. i dont have an exact time on his car but he beat my friend by 2 1/2 cars and my friend drives a 98' trans am with intake and exhaust:eek:

VTEC isnt two staged. if anything he upgraded the intake manifold to add the secondary runnners which allow a shorter path for the intake air to follow.

i personally i have a 88 crx with a B16A swap and im in process of adding a turbo setup to it. with all that im expecting to run 11's with the setup running right.

but yes some civics may be fast. but are they daily drivers like our maxes and look how much aftermarket they need just to keep up with us stock.

man... then theres my super high compression non boostable without serious rebuild H22A1...

EG6-actly, Nothing like stock. They have tons of trouble with irregular idling, seriously noisey weed wacking exhaust(H series excluded) notes, don't seem like they're reliable for beans....oh well if they're fast; they don't need to be reliable, quite or stock...right?:rolleyes:

Thanks for clearing that up, my friend wasn't sure if it was two staged or not, I guess he thought since his vtec kicks in at 4.5 and than at 6 all the way thru 8 it has a different sound to it.

Good Luck with ur CRX, we have one down here with the setup you're doing, it's a little under 11's though. :)

It's all of the SAKE they put in the tanks.

To put it in simple terms. We start with 14's and 255 hp... it takes a lot off begging and a miracle from David Copperfield to get mods made for us. If our aftermarket was like my previous cars... Mustang and WS6.. or a Ricer like Honda.. 12's would be a simple few hundred or thousand away. We have to beg JWT or Steallin to make us something, or some of the smaller guys.. Franken, Warpspseed, etc.... Look through a Import mag.. and see how much crap is available for a Honda or Acura ! A tl-s , and cl-s has HEADERS and full exhaust available.. How about us ??
