Good Review of Nitto 555's in Rain !

Well, my car just saw rain for the first time in almost a year, ( Yes it never rains in Southern Calif.. ). I must say I pushed it pretty good , even raced a TL-S on the highway. These tires are awesome ! I have never had such a good responding tire in the rain , as these. I have 245/35 Nitto 555's ..... Just figured I would pass on the good review ! http://www.rinotommasi.mymag.it/foru...s/ultra/82.gif

Thats the only tire I used to buy on my T/A and Stang.... Nice to see a lot better response from the Nitto's.....

That's weird because I have the same rims and tires as kloggy but I find that they are just ok in the rain. On a dry surface is another story but in the rain they tend to slip on occasion and hydroplane slightly. Maybe it's the surface that I drive on but I wasn't greatly impressed with the handling in the rain.

My brother had a bad experience with the 555's. He was driving the speed limit and they hydroplaned on him causing him to hit a curb. He had some major rim rash and scratched his stillen lip.

Nittos are the sheezy to the neezy.

I must say that i am driving on Southern calif roads, Not the LIE or the Jersey Turnpike. Results would be different then for sure. Our roads here are a lot better. That might have something to do with my impressions ...;)

It's ebonics. It means, and not to offend any of our black friends out there, "they are the $hit my nigga".

How do these compare to Toyo's Z rated performance tires?

maxxximus Nov 11, 2002 08:53 AM

I know this thread is about Nittos but I had a very good test of my Falken Azenis tires on Sat.
I love in Southern Indiana and apparently this year, right now is the monsoon season. I was coming back home late and took a 2-3" puddle at 40-50mph. I was quite impressed, the car never wavered and tracked straight through the offending water. After that incident, I intentionally pushed it last night on a 35mph offramp and again, the tires held quite nicely - no complaint, no worries.

I almost bought the Nittos myself, but since we don't get constant perfect weather (SoCal) I didn't want to chance it come snow time.

Glad to hear you're rolling again kloogy!

Ah, I see. Thanks. I thought it was good, just wasn't positive. (Grew up in the Midwest. What can I say?) :D

I have the Nitto NT555s and I'm happy with their performance most of the time, but I'm not that confident in their ability for wet traction. It rains a lot in Houston and our roads aren't in the best shape and there seems to be a lot of oily grime on them. I drive in the rain a lot and I remember the last time I was on the freeway in steady rain, I almost lost control a few times and I kept thinking, "man, it's time to get some Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's." Like kloogy said, it depends on where you live.
