Attention all PO 02 Max's: Sell Your Car

To The Individuals that Say Sell your Max if you don't like it: Nobody is whining about our Maximas... We are just pointing the fact that our car is retailed from $24,000 to $30,000 and we should get what we paid for...I have an 02 Max SE with about 13,000miles on it. I bought my car for $26,000 and now I went to CARMAX just to find out what quote they might throw me and ....$17,200. Come on, realistly I am no way in hell going to sell my max and lose almost 10 grand... And forget about selling privately... I want at least 20 grand, but Nissan is selling now- Maximas for $22 grand SE model... come no one in there right mind will want a used one with 2grand only knocked off. So if you don't like the dozen of paint chips, the winding noise when the windows are up, and the misconception of Nissan about our 15hp falsely advertised....then just plain out sell your car and lose about 10 grand. I don't know about you but money doesn't grow off trees or parents pockets, I work hard for my money and deserve a car that I paid good money for... One more thing, buy an altima it has 5 more hp for 2003 wtf...

It's not just Maxima's my friend. Sure they don't hold their value the best, but the whole used car market sucks. CarMax will take your 17k car and and sell it for 22k. So losing 5k retail in one year isn't bad, especially in this market. That excellent deal that you got when you bought it is coming back to haunt you. Trading a car in will not net you the best return anyway, I mean come on. It takes about 3-4 years to break even if you even financed the whole thing.

CarMax is notoriously low on their trade in values. They offered me 2k less than a Nissan Dealer for my Accord Coupe. Which by the way got me 16k for an 18 month old car with 18k miles that cost me 24k originally.

agreed, carmax can be a bit low, plus all those are based on national averages - adjusted - and don't necessarily reflect what your car's really worth or what you could actually sell it for. compare it to other similar cars, even luxury cars, i doubt you'll see maximas are that different.

there's also a glut of max's being turned over by rental car companies, 5th gens just out of warranty that they just want to move, so are selling for less, driving down the market.

plus, has anyone else noticed our economy royally sucks? christmas shopping is going to be a joke this year, used car prices are part of that crappy economy, too. 'tis the season to lose money, fa la la la la, la la la lah.

The main reason resale sucks right now is because the used car market is flooded with cars. The incredibly low interest rates and other deals on new cars caused a nasty overstock in the used car market.

If you are so p1ssed off with the Maxima then sell it and get off the org. I love my car and I know exactly what I have. I wouldn't trade or sell for anything else. I drove a 94 Dodge Dakota pickup before I bought my first Maxima (2k GXE). I was happy with the Maxima but not happy with the used condition it was in. I wanted a new car. I wasn't about to settle for anything less and I don't regret it one bit. This is a Maxima enthusiasts forum, if you don't like your car sell it and get something else. When you start b1tching and complaining about that car, I won't feel bad for you.

Just sell your Maxima and get off the .org because i think it took an IQ level of -120 to create a post like this.

Speaking in general...the used car market sucks because of Leasing.

Leasing basically destroyed a person's ability to sell a used car. Why by a 5 yr old car from Joe Blow when you can get a 5 yr old car from a dealer with a limited warrenty.

Personally, I plan to have my Max for about 10 years. Unless it goes to hell in a handbasket on me (which I doubt) it should do me good.

Show me an American car for 22k that's as nice as this. The Monte Carlo or Impala...nope 200 HP and automatic only...Ford??? Do you really want to be seen driving a Taurus??? Pontiac??? Only halfway decent car there is the Bonneville and you ain't getting one of them for less than $27k.

And American cars hold value even worse than Japanese cars. A car is the worst investment you make. I would love to have a "collector's car" unfortunatly I need a way to get to and from work reliably.

So I bought a Max and love it so far.

 Yeah I guess its a good idea to sell the car and lose almost 10 grand in the first year. He and many other maxima owners are ****ed off with the quality of the car. I have been a maxima owner since 1999, having 3 maximas. the 99, a 2000, and now my 2002. I personally have had so may problems with my 2002 maxima its rediculous. the car only has 7,000 miles on it and it already needed a new transmisson?? I have had the headunit replaced three times and its still broken. The parking brake has had to be tightened 2 times, and the front window defroster didnt work, so it had to be replaced too. Is it fair that I spent 26,000 and have problems like this on a brand new car? I still love my maxima, but I see where many others are coming from.
