HID's... Gone...

Today at 3 AM, while I was on the phone I heard a loud thud coming from the direction of where my car was parked and about 1 second later the factory alarm went off, it actually went off...lol

When I looked outside after jumping out of bed I saw two guys running away with my lights. I had no time to do anything.I called the police and actually asked them to send a unit in the direction to where they took off, but the police showed no cooperation and just told me to go into the station and to file a report.

The worst part is that I had an appointment at 11 AM today with Pearl96Max to install an alarm because of the damn HID's and now they're gone.Luckily they didn't know I had it in the fogs too.

They only damaged my hood. One of the guys barely scratched it and the the other bent it to get the headlight out.

Sorry to hear! :bawling: This is everyone's worse nightmare who owns these headlights.. :bawling:

Re: HID's... Gone...

For a while it seemed that there were very few headlights being stolen. In the last month about 5 different people have had theirs stolen.

They're back......

WOW!! I had no idea these were such a hot item (no pun intended). I was considering doing the mod, but I' must reconsider after reading about what a pain in the wallet (spelled A$$) they are. However, I do LOVE the Daylight Demon Eyes. I think I will get a set of those once available.

Anyway, sorry to hear of your loss bro. I have a nice little Glock .40. Anyone comes creeping around my house is going to get a wake up call...but in your case, sounds like you had no time to react anyway.

TimW Jan 2, 2003 09:45 AM

do the cops realize that it's grand theft? this is sickening.

No wonder they continue to do this, the cops really dont care.

what is amazing is that statistically there arent THAT many maxima owners on this board. And many, if not most of you have been hit.

I can't believe there is that big of a market for busted a$$ balasts and some D2Rs.

spta97 Jan 2, 2003 09:50 AM

From your profile it says you are in Newark, NJ. Isn't that the WORST city on the planet for autotheft?

I would get the alarm anyway, you have to get them replaced some time.

Sorry about your loss :(

Wow, it really seems like the Northeast is a real haven for the Maxima HID theft. Are there any other cars on the market that have high HID theft. My question is who is buying all these stolen HIDs?

2k and 2k1 owners are buying them. That's the only reason the Max is such a popular one to hit, cuz they drop right into the older cars. Same with the TL, they get hit so much because they drop right into the Accord. Yes, they steal them for the ballasts, but Max and TL are most popular because it's plug and play with other cars.

Dude!, Go to your local WalMart and pick yourself up a $30 paintball gun. Those balls sting like $#!+ and puts a nice marker on them for the cops.

I got one for Christmas.

TimW Jan 2, 2003 11:32 AM

I *really* dont think other 2k/1 maxima owners are buying them. The demographic for typical maxima owners doesnt really support the large number of thefts. The maxima is one of the least modded imports out there. So, take the number of people who would mod their maxima, then the number of those that would by used/stolen lights and it just doesnt add up to the sheer number of thefts.

I would imagine that most of the housings are being discarded, as we've seen on ebay (no burners or ballast). I think some are ending up in body shops to sell back to owners.

I suspect there are a TON of 'hid kits' on ebay and in local shops up in the NE. :(

so they steal the lights then sell them back to maxima owners and dealerships?

woreyah Jan 2, 2003 07:42 PM

You guys may be close to explanation! But the dealerships and Max owners are to reputable but there is one group that is low enough to deal with stolen parts...

YOU GUESSED IT! THE JUNKYARD!

Hey! Let's experiment:
Call your neighborhood junkyard and ask for a quote(how much are they willing to pay) for a set of brand new HIDs. All it takes are a few corrupt junkyards(there are bound to be some in NYC and NJ) to motivate criminals.

Just imagine, a junkyard dealer may be willing to pay $300-500 per set! A criminal could stand to make $10,000 on 20 cars! And with the Maxima's that's easy money! That explains why some folks are getting hit 3 and 4 times.

This HAS to be it. By the way, you're talkin' to a person who grew up in Queens. ;)

forget that.. just get into shape and start running. Grab a knife and stab these mofo's. I'm so sick of hearing about this. These guys are lucky that I don't go after them. I have a nice legal sized knife, I call it Ghandi, right by my night stand. I hear anything, i go running outside... damn... time to hit the heavy bag.

Anyway I'll let ya'll know what I find tomorrow.

Those in the Newark area need to band together and set a stage for another HID theft and hide out and kill those mothaF u ck ers, its probably the same fools who are stealing other NJ area hid's

woreyah Jan 3, 2003 09:22 AM

I just called a local junkyard. Used HIDs are going $350 a pair. A criminal stands to make $7000 from 20 cars. At about 2-3 minutes per car that's about $7000 in less than a hour's work.
