Things I've discovered about my Maxima.. most of them today.
1.) At about 110mph at WOT, I will run out of gears.
2.) 2000 Silvermist Auto SE's will NOT break. They are the perfect 5th gen! See Y2KevSE - I keep fearing my tranny is dying, but it just doesn't seem to do it! Almost 56k miles on it now... 3.) 20k miles after a s/c install, several track days, 9.5lbs peak boost, and after 3 dyno runs, I saw a peak of 268fwhp! And the tranny is alive! Take into account the automagic drivetrain power loss, and you've got a little over 350hp at the crank... I have had a very good day, tiring, but damn good :) |

Are you maintnance habits w/ the tranny very good?
Do u change trany fluid often? Do you have a tranny cooler? Those results sound great! especially w/ a s/c. Tell us more about the s/c plz. Which vendor? How much for parts and install? Fred....:) |
Honestly, my maintenance habits are average - I just keep an eye on it. Changed the fluid to amsoil synthetic ATF at about 38k miles. The old fluid looked a tad burnt :| Haven't changed it yet since; I just keep an eye on it from time to time - the tranny fluid temp hasn't gotten a chance to do more than touch 180 degrees! Even with the cooler, the "stock" ATF was in the 210-250 range in stop and go traffic in the summer (250 is pretty much considered the break down point for most fluids as far as I know).
The cooler is a Hayden 404, and a VB was done too - without it the car wouldn't even shift from 1st to 2nd under boost. The S/C is just a Vortech V2 (Stillen Kit) - 3.33" pulley, no CAI; just the standard double-pipe-across-the-engine setup that Stillen provides... Avalon racing can hook you up in the low-3k range probably? Install should run about $600-$800 depending on the shop. There's people selling their s/c kits from time to time, so keep an eye on the for sale and air induction forums :) But you'll see too that many also seem to have horrid luck with blowing their trannies :( |
