Worked all weekend but this morning it didnt...trunk still opens from inside and with the key. Any ideas? FOB still opens doors and such.

This happened with my wife's fob this past week. The next day it worked. Maybe you can start your car and then turn it off and see if it resets. (Reboot your car... LOL)

Isn't there a little valet switch to disable the release located on the door? Maybe this also disables the fob.

On your Maxima it's the little black remote control you use to open your doors/trunk/panic... etc...

Because this happened to me a few times, where the trunk would just make a clicking sound, but not pop open.. After I opened it with the key and closed it again, it worked fine.. Did you have the clips installed?? -Tom |
If your safety lock, located in the trunk, is pushed all the way down or partly down, then the key fob trunk release will NOT work. Perhaps it got hit, nudged, or bounced around and it engaged.
I use the safety lock after work when I throw my laptop computer in the trunk, and head to the mall, Wal-Mart, grocery shopping, etc, on the way home from work. I know the trunk doesn't work using the key fob because I forget sometimes I engaged the safety lock. It will make a popping sound, but the trunk does not raise up. The safety lock I am speaking of is at or near the lock assembly in the trunk, just to the left (by looking straight down. Push all the way down prevents anybody but the person with the key from opening, pull all the way up allows key fob or key to open. This is is probably documented in the owner's manual. |

Having the same problem
Im dealing with the same issue. I cant explain it. 80% of the time it works. The other times it just wont open using the FOB. No, clicking sound, no switches turned on or off. I just give up and try again later and it works! Im not too concerned about it but it does annoy me.

You see, the valet key can NOT open the trunk, however, once inside the car, one can just pop the trunk with the button on the door... Well, if you have dead bodies in your trunk, and are going out to an expensive dinner, this could pose a problem for you... What does this have to do with your trunk??? ... well, simple, if you engage the safety lock, the only way to open the trunk is to either #1.. use key #2.. pick lock / break lock (most likely break) #3.. break into car, roll down back seat... #2, and #3, provide physical evidence of a break in... #1.. doesn't, but how many people have the key to your car?? Why the safety lock,... isn't the key fob safe... Sure... but not AS safe!!! #1.. you can trip it by accident.. i have accidentally opened my car many times while walking away from it, and sticking the key fob into jeans... (if you have tight pockets, the walking action will activate the buttons).. #2. In theory, the key fob is only safe because of people's technological ignorance.. If more people knew EXACTLY how it worked, there might be more theft this way... (people attending MIT, watch out for disgruntled engineers!!!)... I've been reading up on the proximity reader system used at our school to gain entrance to buildings, and still have a lil' bit of time left to kill, so i'll try to explain... Students are issued a key-fob, which they wave in front of a black panel outside doors to gain entry... Similar concept to your Nissan key-fob.. with only one major difference... your Nissna key-fob is an ACTIVE key fob.. meaning it generates an RF signal on its own (it has a power source), allowing it to work at greater ranges.. The key fobs in school are passive key fobs, meaning that the door actually emits a low freq. RF signal, which causes a reaction in the key-fob, thus activating a response on a separate frequency carrying the key-fobs id... (ie.. the power is provided externally) Turns out that both are secure, but in different ways... A passive key fob is a security risk, if someone is DETERMINED TO steal your identity.. Why??? well they could just construct a device which emits the same RF freq. the door device emits, bump into you, and record the key-fobs response (later replaying that response to the door to gain entry)... This obviously, requires no knowledge of the actual information sent, just the persistance to build said device... Your Nissan key-fob doesn't transmit anything until you press that button?? So where's the security risk?? well, if someone is within range, using a similar device, they can record the signal you send to open your trunk, and then simply "play" it back once you leave... and Whalaa.. Hi Tech Robin-hooding..!!! WITH NO EVIDENCE!!! -Tom PS... It's really not so far-fethced.. there are MANY people on this planet that could modify a garage door opener to achieve the desired effect !!!! All you need is some engineer down on his luck, and a mall parking lot!!! |
