Top speed in each gear

There seems to be different opinions on the maxima about top speed on each gear..

Does anyone know the facts on what the top speed is on each gear for the auto and Manual transmission?

Did anyone see the article in SCC about how just about every car's 2nd gear ends at 61-62 mph (for manuals at least); just to make the 0-60 time a little better. As consumers we focus so much on magazine numbers we basically force the car companies to do things a certain way, even if it doesn't completely benefit overall performance of the car.

i don't know about EVERY car, but my 4th gen goes to at least 68mph in 2nd gear
and for auto's its much higher than manuals...cause of different gearing

i believe 2nd in a 2k2 auto tops out around high 60's.

Shifting right before redline I'm at approx. 62 mph.

What if we had shorter gears down low :)

2000 Maxima SE 5-speed:
1st 60 km/h (37 mph)
2nd 110 km/h (68 mph)
3rd 160 km/h (100 mph)
4th 210 km/h (130 mph)
5th Big controversy...

4th gens and 2002/03 and automatics all have different gearing so I'm not sure about those.

3rd gen VE, 4th gen, 5th gens all have the same transmission and gear ratio for the 4a and 5m. I'm not sure about 3rd gen VE final drives though. Different tire sizes effects where they will max out at in each gear. All listed below are rounded to nearest .XX (hundredth)

4a
1st gear - 2.79 (overrall 10.57)
2nd gear - 1.55 (5.87)
3rd gear - 1.00 (3.79)
4th gear - 0.69 (2.62)
reverse - 2.27 (8.60)
final drive - 3.79

5a
1st gear - 4.66 (overrall 11.37)
2nd gear - 3.03 (7.39)
3rd gear - 1.98 (4.83)
4th gear - 1.34 (3.27)
5th gear - 1.02 (2.49)
reverse - 5.11 (12.47)
final drive - 2.44

5m
1st gear - 3.29 (overall 12.57)
2nd gear - 1.85 (7.07)
3rd gear - 1.27 (4.85)
4th gear - 0.95 (3.63)
5th gear - 0.80 (3.06)
reverse - ?
final drive - 3.82

6m
1st gear - 3.15 (overrall 13.01)
2nd gear - 1.94 (8.01)
3rd gear - 1.39 (5.74)
4th gear - 1.06 (4.38)
5th gear - 0.81 (3.35)
6th gear - 0.63 (2.60)
reverse - 3.00
final drive - 4.13
