What's a good muffler to replace OEM?

I was looking at the rundown for repairs on my max and noticed the OEM Nissan Muffler is almost $400 + 1 hour labor cost for installation.

If i can talk to the shop, i'll probably just bring my own muffler in and save that extra cash for something else.

Right now the Max is making a muffled growl, what with the broken muffler and all. But it does drone on highway speeds. I'd like something that does growl a bit but doesn't drone as much.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you get the other guy's insurance, who cares how much the bill is??

Well, i was thinking maybe i can just pocket that savings and use it for something else. I can get Powertech's at wholesale so i can probably even save a bit more. Is this a bad idea?

I love my PowerTech and the drone is bearable.

Ah...well not sure how the shop, especially if it is the dealer body shop, will look at that. Independent may do it for you, but something that large (Mossy) is probably sensitive to what basically amounts to insurance fraud.

Hmm.. i never thought of it that way. I guess we'll see when it actually comes down to it.

Maximamaybe, thanks for the link!

WTH an hour labor its only 2 bolts. Nissan is rediculous with there charges.

The insurance company should not be able to dictate your purchase. You saved them money in my opinion. The body shop works for you as well.

Uh, you need to recheck what was proposed. It was not buying a cheaper muffler and then passing on the savings to the insurance company. It was claiming the full amount on them, then only using part for the muffler. While I am in no way an insurance company supporter, I can see where they would get ****ed and have every right to dictate what they pay for.

I guess it's because it seems the Muffler is lodged into something and may take a bit more effort to take out and straighten the pipe coming from it leading to the engine.

Then again, i haven't seen the bottom part after the muffler. But their estimates on how much it'll cost is definitely in writing.

I'm getting a second opinion on the damages and repairs from another shop though.

with 2 hands it takes approx 10 mins to take the stocker out and install the new axel back muffler. You will need a lift or some high jack stands to do it though.

That is why I like them to cut me a check for the amount dictated by the adjuster. Then I take it to the shop myselft. If it happens to be more, that is when a suplemental clame comes in.
