Raced my gf's 02 SE last night
Well, this was kinda the first time we raced since we both bought our new cars. I was in my 6 speed CL Type-S, and she has a 02 Max SE auto. We went maybe 4 or 5 times, all from about 60-80mph. I know my gearing was alot better than her's at that speed because from 60mph I would drop it into 3rd and be at about 5500 rpm, and I think she was only at about 4100 rpm in 3rd. When I was only able to drop to 4th I wouldn't pull as bad, but she still wouldn't jump ahead at all. I was giving her the leave also. I would wait until I saw her car jump and then I would floor it. I would pull away pretty decently every time, and by the time I hit 125mph I was a good ahead.
We haven't gone from a stop yet, but from my SOTP fell I think I will be playing catch-up until I shift into 3rd gear. |
what was her reaction after the races?
|
She figured from that speed I would win. She is still earning the car, so it was really just to get some experience driving it fast.
|
60mph on a 2k2 Auto is 3k rpm in 3rd gear :)
|
Jesus Christ  I didn't realize the Maxima auto was geared so tall. Hell, from the calculations I just did 2nd gear won't hit redline until ~87mph , and 3rd doesn't run out till 134 mph.
I told her to put it in 3rd and just floor it. I figured that if it was slow enough to downshift to 2nd it would, but I didn't wanna tell her to drop it to 2nd at 70mph because I didn't want her to over-rev it. Well, I guess that says alot. If she dropped it in 3rd gear at 70mph, that would only be at about 3300 rpm, so I had a real advantage over her if it didn't downshift, which it probably didn't. I guess I know now for next time :D |
Try this with a 6spd max, might just be a diff story :D
|
I realize that completely. However, I almost never come across 02+ Max's anyways, let alone a 6 speed that wants to race. :(
|
Nisan manual trannys are just plain mean, even the 5-speeds. Two years ago when I joined this forum, we had a late night meet. A SC Auto, with intake, tanny cooler, y-pipe, raced a bone stock 2K1 AE, no contest. The Auto driver was a really good driver but, no contest, we're talking about 100H.P. difference. Be careful not to run up to a 6 spd., you'll get ripped a new one.
|
I think it would be a very good race. The Maxima 6 speed and CL-S 6 speed trap very similar, so I don't think I'd get "ripped a new one".

Oh sprinty, drop a "bs" on this guy would ya |

Dont underestimate the 6spd CL-S they are not slow at all. The 6spd will be a VERY good match for the CL-S. Its more of a drivers race then anything. It can go either way. The 6spds are a diff monster but are not the fastest car on the road, but still not to be taken likley same with the CL-S.

VTEC + stick shift = Lots of Fun~~!
I'm not too crazy about SOHC engines though.... but overall I give CL-S with 6spd a  I hope TL-S gets a stick shift too in the future. I like the styling of TL much better. As of now, I just want to enjoy my 3.5L award winning motor :D |
a 6sp maxima off the line would have the advantage of torque. the acura only has about 230 and the maxima has about 270.
The acura has 260hp while the maxima has about 240. so there are ups and downs but like other people said, its a drivers race |

I've posted many times of how auto 2k2+ suck from a roll! haha... I've gotten pulled on by modded integra GSR's from rolls, and hard time pulling on some cars. I've raced alot of CL-S's and they get me on a roll (manual) and barely get me but still do *(auto), but from a stand still its bye bye! I've taken many CL-S from stoplight go's and i know around 3rd they'll catch up and hang next to me unless they are modded; a guy i know has an auto 3.5 CL... yes 3.5 CL-S!! he runs high 13's during optimal conditions.

There is nothing special about his car. And I don't know why everyone thinks it is. If you take most any 2k2 Auto, set it up like his and let him drive it i bet you he will get about the same times.
|
How many diff way is there to launch an auto, I could say the same with your car, but then again your one hell of a driver so I guess your right. Im still waiting for this winter :naughty: The reason many think his car is a freak is due to the 14.6 run he pulled when stock. That is alot faster then whats considered normal times for an auto. Still can be due to the way he drives it :gotme:
|
the guy weighs 140 pounds and knows how to launch his car.

Yesterday afternoon I was on my way down Rt202 to go mountain biking- a AE edition 5speed was jocking the **** out of my car , pointing fingers -n-****, with his girl on the passenger seat- car was modded to ****- loud as hell and i saw him shifting cause he burned out at a light 2 cars in front of me- As the lane cleared -I got over- Dropped it like its hot on my six speed took second to like 5500RPM- slapped third(oh my God, first time ever my tires chirped on third driving this car) Pulled right on him , his car was screamin' - but my car started pulling away like there was tomorrow- Let me clarify my conditions: 4 full size adults, a bike rack, 3 mountain bikes, A 2 MTX 10" sealed box in the trunk with other ****, the Air conditioning on 3/4 way(the whole time) It was 87 degrees out around 1:30 pm here in Jersey- HOLLA!!!!!!! 3.5VQ's "ARE" torque monsters- All I have is a Franken' midpipe and a FSTB- basically stock-cannot believe a chirped on third with all that weight in the car!Only car I had ever done that in was my '86 mustang GT ! :ben: |
You guys are crazy ..
this dude ran one 14.6 run and all of a sudden his car is a "Factory freak" .. whutever... You know .. in the history of drag racing (street cars) .. slower cars have been known to achieve lower ET's for no other reason other than a lucky run .. or lucky weather, track conditions... I remember blu ran his car against a STOCK TL-S and was barely able to pull away from him or something (please search for this story and post it to confirm that I'm not b.s.) at like 90 mph .. he claimed it was too wet out or something ridiculous like that .. funny.. i own both the 2k3 max SE and the TL-S (now modded) and the TL-S also has pretty ridiculous launching characteristics on wet streets.. hmmmm... so did my '91 I4 Toyota Camry .. w/ a whopping 90 fwhp... hmmm.... keep dreaming boyz .. the CL-S and Max from a dead stop are next to identical .. The 5-spd auto is a HELLUVA lot more fun to drive than the boring *** 4-spd nissan auto .. |

Originally posted by F23A4 I'll agree that the auto CLS and auto 2K2+ Max are roughly equal in straightline performance. However, having driven the TL on MANY occassions, the Acura tranny is fun ONLY because of the sequential shift feature. The SS definitely makes it more sporty .. but the throttle in the TL-S mated w/ the tranny seems to allow for the best gear selection in almost any circumstance. I can't tell you HOW many times I was in that maxima and I floored it .. and it wouldn't drop into 1st... or in another circumstance it wouldn't drop into 2nd for aggressive acceleration .. the TL-S would certainly have done so in the same scenario. Top end on the auto max is a tragedy (stock) .. and the low end isn't sooo much better than the TypeS to warrant a celebration like some die hard max owners indicate. I like the fact that the TL-S has nice snap off the line .. and awesome high end w/ fast-shifting .. You need to drive the TL-S/CL-S for at least a week or a month to understand .. i like my Maxima and TL-S for different reasons.. but I'd much rather be driving my TL-S on any given day for all the stated reasons. i'm sure some people have rented Maxima's for a couple days and formulated opinions of the car that may have changed had they driven it for a longer period of time, or had they owned it. Just my opinion -- bark all ya want if you disagree.. |
btw.. since I own both .. i can tell you only this .. you need to own a TL-S/CL-S for at least a week or a month to understand .. i like my Maxima and TL-S for different reasons.. but I'd much rather be driving my TL-S on any given day for all the stated reasons.

agreed! My auto TL-S shifts so hard and fast (for an auto) that I chirp into 2nd every time... now that I have headers and intake.. it's permanent.
