I'm in Japan!

I'm unsure of what car our Maximas are related to. I've seen a couple of older Bluebirds and they look similiar. The cars are absolutely amazing over here. I've seen over 100 Skylines and at least 10 GTR's. I had no idea how popular and how many different models were in the Skyline family. Silvia's are also a huge car favorite. Nissans everywhere, followed by Toyotas at a far distant 2nd. Hondas are rare here in Okinawa. Is the Maximas sister the Bluebird?

arrrg! when I went to japan at the beginning of summer, I only saw 1 GTR!!

Virus Aug 16, 2003 09:51 AM

Dude, I was so lucky. I was bumped up to first class, but it took almost 30 hours with layovers to get to Okinawa. My coworkers and I left the airport terminal and there it was. A fully decked out GTR was parked next to the person picking us up. I have pictures! I saw another at racing past the hotel we were staying at. I didn't think it possible for foreign car to sound as nice as the American V8's. I was wrong. The Skyline was every bit as deep toned as the American V8's. Simply amazing sound!

You want parts for the A33 Cefiro.

The Maxima is the Cefiro in Japan. The Bluebird is the Altima. Do you like how some of the bluebirds have SSS like it's one S more special than an SS.

It's funny how in Japan the tuner brand of choice is Nissan. You might be lucky to see a civic done up. Here in the US it's exactly opposite. But think about it. They have the Silvia for drifting, the Fairlady Z for being a little more serious, and the GTR for all out domination.

And I have one request for a picture. I didn't get a chance while I was in Japan, BUT PLEASE TAKE A PICTURE OF ONE OF THOSE TOYOTA CAVALIERS! (chevy guys would be mad to think they're cavaliers were developed with the Japanese. kinda undermines the whole Chevy is better than thou attitude)

vqman Aug 16, 2003 08:56 PM

the cavalier's weren't developed with the Japanese, the Toyota version is just a rebadged chevy.

and the chevy prism is a rebadged Yota Corolla...

Most of the cars have absolutely no resemblence to our sister cars. I have seen a few cefiro's, but they were older and looked nothing like our beloved Maximas and the Bluebird didn't look like an Altima. The Silvia's look identical to the 240's. It's a shame they aren't marketed in the US anymore. I've seen 2 civics and that's all they were. No mods. You are correct though, Nissans are definately the brand choice over here. In talking with local military people, American cars are considered premium brands like Mercedes and BMW are in the states, especially the Cadillacs. Unfortunately for them, there is only 1 authorized dealer that sells everything. The cost for them is rediculous.

I haven't seen any police and they tell me the crime rate is really low here. EVERYONE has been nice. Visit a McDonalds here and your treated fantastic. My company flew me business class and as luck would have it, I was bumped up to first class in SanFrancisco. Even in First Class, the long ride really gets to you. Our tickets cost a tad over $8,000. I'm going to try to arrange for a ride in a Skyline GTR. An assistant manager at one of our offices here has a friend that has one. Please! Why in the world wouldn't Nissan bring these to the United States? Does anyone know how I go about checking what aftermarket parts are here for my car through Nismo or any other vendors? Unfortunately, the dollar to yen is horrible, so things are really expensive. Headers?

I'll need someone to host the pics, but I won't be able to get them to whomever does this until I get back to the states in a couple of weeks.

I'm living with my inlaws until our new home is built. They only have 56k dialup. I cannot do it from work and I don't have the patience for dialup.

virus;

Sounds like a cool job, I miss mine : /

I used to do similar stuff for chase, but I was a consultant and my assignment ended.
I've been out of work for a year, but I go back to college : ]

Do us all a favor, and get sum great pictures over there to bring back for us, I wish I could travel like that : ]

Virus Aug 17, 2003 04:15 PM

I hate the travel as does my wife and little ones, but I do love the job. I'll try to get some more pics, but it seems like I always see the cars when we are driving. Most of the Skylines or some models of Skylines aren't that impressive.

try to be a little more considerate of your choice of words. i know you really did not mean anything by these in particular. but your phrase is borderline, if not past it. others may take it harshly. just something to keep in mind for the future.

leungjc78 Aug 18, 2003 05:52 AM

well.........

To be totally honest, Japanese are SO into the American culture that foreigners (white or black) gets worshipped like Gods.
This is especially true to white American (with American/Canadian accent of course)......you can practically do anything and get away with anything. And the oposite sex will go nuts as well....

I'm Chinese and when I go to Japan, no one even take a second look at me.....for Americans...damn......it's like they fear them or something.

Not trying to offend or anything, just saying what I see and hear....please feel free to prove me wrong. :nervous:

Anyone try to test drive cars in Japan? I was told it's paid by the hour or something. Asia has a lot more variety in Japanese cars, and our Max/Alt don't look anything like it in Japan. Theres Maximas in Europe and Oceania, but they look like Cerfio and all 3.0L (even 2002+)
You know what I like? The Toyota 'Chaser'! (or was it 'Charger'? I think it's Chaser..) If someone see one, take pics!!!

Peace!

Virus Aug 19, 2003 07:04 AM

Uh oh. Guess who is getting a ride in a fully modded twin turbo Skyline GTR? Me! The branch managers husband's best friend has a Skyline GTR with $8-10k in mods. I'll get as many pics as I can. I wish I would've brought my video camera:bawling:
