HID's sale illegal?

Someone keeped saying that HID's were going to be illegal to not only have installed but to sale as well. I was aware about having them sntalled but what state is it illegal to sell them in?

MAKSYMALNY Aug 20, 2003 10:36 AM

It isn't illegal yet... and they won't be able to stop sales of 'pre-ban' HIDs after they stop the sales commercially (you will still be able to sell them privately).

Igor911 Aug 20, 2003 10:38 AM

the law started on aug 15

Luquire Aug 20, 2003 10:43 AM

Commercially, yes.

But... at a garage sale?

Y2KSESteve Aug 20, 2003 11:31 AM

 I personally would not buy an HID kit from a garage sale...

I think he can, privately.

As a commercial business, no.

They're pricey, but QUALITY is bar none. Laws wont stop out-of-country sales.:naughty:

Got to love Canada!

The problem is that companies like CATZ now can not sell their products commercially, and are most likely, unfortunately going out of business...

If they aren't DOT approved, they shouldn't be allowed for sale.

If CATZ is DOT approved, then that's not right.

umnitza Aug 20, 2003 07:57 PM

Catz is not DOT approved. The capsules are, the ballasts and ignitors probably are, but their technique for putting the product together probably didn't take the necessary steps through the regulartory process.

It's expensive to get approval.

Many companies are out, many companies are choosing to risk $5000 per day penalties.

In reality, we have a secret stash left, because we were allowed a repreive til the 23rd (which is how the staged ban is going to work).
