I'm taking off my FSTB, anything I should know?

I'm a newbie who's taking off my cheap *** ebay FSTB today. It just doesn't fit right. It burned my hood insallation! I'm going to buy an OTTO or Courtesy soon. Anything I should know about having a FSTB on for like 3 months and then taking it off? Or, just put the stock rings back on, and torque it to 35ft/lbs?

Thanks

What & where doesn't it fit?

Well, since the hood inSULation is already damaged, why not wait until you get your next bar and just swap them then? Only need to have the wrench out once rather than take this one off and then have to play with the area again.

It looks like it fits ok, but I noticed the burns in my hood insallation. There is one burn right in the middle, and another on the driver side. It seems like the driver side of my FSTB is higher than the passenger side. The reason I wanted it off today is because I didn't want it to damage anything else, but I guess you're right the hood insallation is already damaged.

I probably have the same kind and it fits ok, although I haven't looked at my hood insulation lately. Was the bar adjusted right? After I put mine on I could grab the bar in the middle and shake it with absolutely no movement. did you mount it flush with the strut tower? I'm going out to check mine by the way & I'll let you know

I'm pretty sure everything is flush. I can also grab the middle of the bar with no movement. When you look at your hood insullation, look for a burn the exact size of the bar. The burn on the driver side is deeper. The bar actually bent the insualltion on the driver side (right at the curve of the bar) but it did not hit the hood. That would be great If you can help me figure this out, because I would like to keep this bar. Many people on the org sat these bars are ok. Another question: Did you take the rings off before you put you bar on?

kcowden Aug 25, 2003 12:31 PM

I checked mine out and its all good. I have an 03 and the bar I got was a full circle. My strut towers had small nubs on the outside section where the rings go, so they didn't sit perfectly flush. I took a hacksaw and cut out the section that was not sitting flush still having three bolt holes for mounting. I painted them and mounted them without the bar connected, then adjusted the bar to fit snugly in the horizontal ring holes, tightened the bar to the rings, then tightened the bar nuts. Mine came with no instructions so this seemed the most logical way to mount it. Hope this helps.

Thanks, maybe I'll take mine off and mount the rings seperatly, and take it from there.

Thanks

I have the same problem.

why replace the bar if the damage is already there. I doubt it could get any worse. plus what are going to do buy new insulation. i dont think it would be worth it plus my hood used to move at high speeds but the bar keeps it stabilized. It is a trade off for me but worth it.

My hood insulation is all messed up also. Can the insulation start on fire?? :redbounce
