After 3,500 rpm, it feels like I'm losing power...
 

I have a 5-speed 2k Max. In every gear except 1st, when I hit 3,500 rpm, I feel like I'm losing power. It doesn't accelerate as quickly, and the rpm goes up really slowly, even if I'm flooring it. Someone told me this means my MAF sensor is busted, is this true? If it is, how much do they cost to replace?

I wanna say that when the MAF is blown, the car won't go above 22-2400RPM... So I don't believe its the MAF..

The problem seems to be endemic to 2000-01's with higher miles.

While cleaning the throttle body may help, it's most likely the VAIS failing. It may be time to begin petitioning NNA to issue a TSB, since the number of affected cars is climbing.

The replacement part is not cheap, and NNA needs to take responsibility. They know about the problem, since they changed the intake design for 2002 to eliminate the failure.

check your vaccuum lines... it could be the swirl control valves not opening... they are supposed to open just past 3500 rpm... if they are not, then that is why you are losing power.

mine was the MAF...
I would give it power and i wouldn't feel it go...
It always happened around 3500 rpms too...
I had it checked out and it turned out to be a bad MAF...
Go have it checked out and tell us what happend

I almost guarantee it is the MAF. It probably has not failed, but is in the process of failing.

I had the exact same problem you are describing. I had the intake cleaned, tried different spark plugs...

I took it to Nissan, they replaced the MAF, and now the car feels faster than I ever remember. Of course, as a bonus, they advanced the timing. They charged me $113 for the MAF and 3 hours labor (supposedly the diagnosing time.)

I attributed my problem to the KN filter I put in and cleaned and reoiled. Did you use one? I never using one of those again...
