i know everyone speaks of different generations, but is it actually okay to say that the 2002 is included in the 5th gen discussions. a lot of manufacturers that i have called (GReddy, HKS, etc.), say that they don't have anything available for the 2002. Stillen says that all parts from the 2001 are not the same for the 2002. well, my question is, what's the real answer. are 2001 parts the same as 2002? is 2002 really 5th gen? thanks for all your help!

They call it 5th gen, cuz of the body style. I think the main reason the parts dont all fit the 2002 is cuz of the engine. But it could be alot of other factors as well.

The 2K2-2K3 is a 5th gen because it is built on the same chasis and with basically the same body style as the 2K-2K1 cars. The 2K2-2K3 cars have significant upgrades however so you could argue that they really are 5.5th gen cars. Most 2K1 suspension mods carry over just fine. Some exhaust mods, not including y-pipe, carry over also. Since the engine is different most engine mods won't carry over.

well.....

so as long as it has nothing to do with the engine, or is not attached to the engine mounts (as in the y-pipe), then it should carry over with no problem, right?

This is mostly correct. One other problem would be aftermarket manual shifters. Replacement Pacer or Stillen short throw shifters won't work either because of the new manual tranny.

its almost the same as 95/96 and 97-99 4th gens. they're all considered 4th gens. they all have the same engine but some other parts slightly differ.

This is something of a silly argument. You could argue that those with HLSD are different than those without. You can pick any set of options and make this point. Having a VQ35 in some ways is better and in some ways worse. Many of the popular modifications available for the VQ30 are not available for the VQ35. So who is better from this point of view?

I don't mean to pick on this particular person but 5.5 is not necessarily better than a solid 5.0. I have a VQ35 and I love the car so don't get me wrong. But down deep it is still a Maxima/Cefiro. No mistaking it for anyone who knows.

Well, that's not really fair, b/c the 2K2 hasn't been out as long. Especially with relatively less popular cars like the Max, it takes the aftermarket awhile to make parts. Plus now with the new G35, Altima, and the 350Z coming, I can only see that wait getting longer.

Like I said before , what are the times for a 2K1 5 speed , compared to a 2K2 6 speed, or a 2K2 Auto ???

the times?

well.. if you drive at or *near* the speed limit, 'times' for a 2k and 2k2 are exactly the same

Grocery Gettin'
2k = 12mins, 32 seconds
2k2 6sp = 12mins, 12 seconds

Re: is a 2002 really a 5th gen?

How about this:

5th Generation Maxima:
2000 - 5
2001 - 5.25 (list differences from previous year...)
2002 - 5.5 (list more differences from previous years...)
2003 - 5.75 (list even more differences from previous years...)

6th Generation Maxima:
2004 - 6

...and so on and so on...

Well, actually judging from our little run last month, you may want to revise your estimates.

Yeah, the 4th gens differ only in body, but the heart of the car, the engine and the tranny, stays pretty much the same from 95-99.

For the 2k and 2K2, the body remains the same, but the heart of the car, the engine and tranny, are very different.

I think of the 2K2s as the 5.5 generation as well.

Yeah, I need to pull alot the first half, break down due to MAF failure, and hope the tow truck that picks me up has enough torque to keep pulling on you for the second half.....lol.

That's kind of a catch-22. The 3.5 VQ is the Goldenboy of Nissan right now. So that means with a lot of applications comes a lot of aftermarket attention. Some of those aftermarket parts will be universal. But then again some will be model specific and with the Fairlady Z on her way back, much of the attention will be devoted to her. Still I think there will be many more parts for the 3.5 than the 3.0

I couldn't figure out how to create a new thread so I figured I'd comment in a few rooms. I need help. I leave for Basic Training in 2 months and when I return I'll have $10,000. I want to upgrade my engine. I want everything rebuilt and have some upgrades added while they are in there (the engine). Can anyone tell me who does this type of stuff. I can't find a company anywhere that I can take my car to and they'll put in a cold air intake, upgrade cams shafts, cattback exhaust, etc... Please send me an email at runlouisville@yahoo.com to let me know where I can take my car to do this. I will also be looking for a sponsor. This is a HOT chick in front of my car at the http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...etwarriorz.com competition in Louisville, KY.
