cons of tsb's
I am taking my car in tomorrow and plan on asking the dealer to do several tsb's including, lack of power, xenon headlamp theft deterrent kit, hood shudder, and wind noise. Has anyone had any bad experiences after having a tsb done? I am mostly concerned about the hood shudder, wind, and xenon tsb's. I do not want to drive out of the dealership worse off than when I drove in.

i took my 02 for almost all the things you asked for. they fixed the wind noise, hood rattle (man it was BAD!!!) the HID kit i wont pay for, and my 02 doesnt have the lack of power. dealers know about most of the problems, so all should work out...

thx -IgS |
Besides the "Can't duplicate" or "That's NORMAL" lines, they can AND will break sheit, scratch sheit, and fuk up 2-3 other things for every one they fix. At least that's my experience.
Anyways, I'd have them perform the lack of power TSB, forget about the "theft deterrent" kit, and perform the hood and wind noise TSBs yourself. Good luck! |
I own an 03 Max SE. Occasionally my car seemed sluggish, I asked them to do the "lack of power" TSB. He looked up his computer and told me that my car will qualify for reprogramming but I will still have the same old MAF... Before doing it, he told me that our cars are sluggish and its normal. He also told me that if they reprogram my car will burn more fuel etc. I asked him to go ahead with the update.
I think both our engines do not qualify for MAF replacement... so I am not sure "lack of power" TSB will do much. I did find the car to be running a bit smoother and more responsive, but I think I need a week to judge the difference... |

When I bought the car it had personality, ran like a spotted assed ape. After the TSB it was ho/hum performance. As far as I know the SE and AE had the same engine, AE advertised 5 extra HP from the muffler. I'm skeptical about the muffler though. I think they tweaked the ECM of the AE and the TSB programmed it like any othe SE. After the TSB it was disappointing. I even had them bump the timing to 17btdc, no help. ECM TSBs scare me. |

Its like i want to get something if its entitled to me but i'm not sure if i need it ahah. |
trey, yeah it was sluggish when accelerating from stop. Sometimes engine would run a bit rough like its pulling extra weight or something... I just had this TSB done today, overall I feel some difference, maybe its just in my head. If your dealer agrees to do it, just get it done... you'll "feel" a little better knowing that you used a little bit of your warranty :)

The AE has a different ECU part number.

I still don't buy the 5 extra HP due to gizmo valve in the muffler krapp. |
Me neither, but DAVEB says they are indeed different. What the difference is he doesn't know.
Do you have a OBD scanner by chance? Mine tells me the part number and I'd like to know what yours has. DAVEB can also tell you from your VIN# if you're curious.

cons of tsb's?
You mean the cons that perform them? :) |

Call DAVEB at (888)254-6060 to give him your VIN#. Hopefully, he isn't busy.:wall:
Anyways, on my Alex Pepper OBD software, I can do a VIN, CVIN, etc... check, but only one works and it happens to return the ECU part number. Can you do the same?

The con of having TSBs done is that most dealers either a) don't care, b) don't know what they're doing, or c) all of the above.
I had the wind noise TSB done. I'm still trying to get the silicone gunk off my leather seats, and I still have to scrub it from my windows whenever I decide to lower them and put them back up. I had the brake judder TSB done, and the problem returned a couple of weeks later. They didn't replace the pads, even though the TSB calls for it, because "that's just a guideline, and we choose what to follow." I had the 1-2 slow shift (auto tranny) TSB done, and the car has shifted even slower since the "fix". As a consolation prize, the dealer scratched the interior driver's door panel with a screwdriver. Come to think of it, even an oil change comes with benefits. Last time I had scratches on the car that weren't there before. I consider a successful Nissan service experience one that does not cause additional damage to the car. YMMV. |
Just had the hesitation TSB done today. Very happy with service and results.

Can you get a TSB done if you're past warranty?

If you are past warranty period, you are on your own - just slightly different from when you had warranty. :grinno: |

OK, I had "lack of power" TSB done about a week ago. They updated the software and I am not sure if they replaced my MAF. He highlighted the part number 237106Y314 and commented as "updated #". I am not sure if this is a new MAF or my old one... The first three days (after I had the TSB done) my ride was just amazing. My car was very quick and responsive. Automatic gear shifting was smooth, everything was just great... Slowly it lost its edge and now its back to being sluggish. I have no idea if this is mechanical issue or the software or the MAF itself. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Do I have to buy different MAF and install it myself to achieve better results? |

IceY2K1, thanks man for your help... I will reset the ECU tomorrow. How do I do Drive-by-wire reset? I did not find anything about that.
Also, I forgot to add that when accelerating the gas pedal resists against push and I have to apply more pressure to accelerate. I am not sure if this is a related problem... |
Can someone tell me how to do Drive-by-wire reset... thx.
