Mpg and temp. I like to keep track of my mileage and see what gas performs best :)

they say great minds think alike ;) I do the same....99% of time temp display, other 1% DTE (after I fill up-like to see if my gas mileage goes up or down as my miles pack on)

... Oct 11, 2003 11:29 AM

i do the same thing as u... on temp...

SilverSleeper Oct 11, 2003 11:35 AM

I do the same as well.

Temp display 90% of the time as well.

It was gas mileage about 50% of the time, but I started to notice everytime I cleared it and drove it always returned to the same area...which was 24.3-24.5 mpg.

I thought...wow this car gets great gas mileage for this size engine and performance.
Then, after a couple fill ups and calculating the gas mileage the REAL way and the only REAL accurate way, I realized I was really getting between 22-23 mpg on average.
Still really good, but consider at least half or more likely 60% of driving in LA is on a freeway (even if it's only a couple miles away.

So I quickly learned the gas mileage computer was not realistic and therefore it made no sense for me to keep it on that setting.

I did notice one thing about it though. I installed a K&N filter last year, and after a fill up the computer increased .2 mpg to the 24.5 from the 24.3 it usually sat on.

I don't trust th distance to empty anyway. I try to always fill up before it gets below 1/8 tank.

Yep - temp mostly, DTE the rest of the time.

MaxSE03 Oct 11, 2003 02:16 PM

Temp all the time.......Except for when the DTE starts flashing. :slap:

DTE, Temp are the most common I am on

limsandy Oct 11, 2003 02:44 PM

Temperature.... why? Because it's almost winter and I'd like to know if there is black ice on the road.

davidme Oct 11, 2003 02:55 PM

temp ?
I live in Arizona and the Temp guage does not go that high.
I guess Nissan neglected to take us poor melting folks into consideration. A minor oversite they are sure to fix in the future.
Maybe they will also come out with an Arizina Edition that comes with an airconditioning that won't only work in the winter, and even airconditioned seats instead of heated.

Ma><iManiac Oct 11, 2003 03:02 PM

Temp & DTE...The mpg one is completely inaccurate, and the time thing would really only be useful on a road trip or something.

kgb006 Oct 11, 2003 03:20 PM

mine doesnt work sinse i put in my bummping system....

Maxnut Oct 11, 2003 03:26 PM

There is a way to fix that after installing an aftermarket radio.Do a search you should find it.Just have to connect two wires left open after radio install.

Wrong info.I meant there is an unused connector from your factory radio. All you have to do is ground the brown wire with white stripes to the chassis of ur car and wallllah! trip works again. Someone please correct me if i got the color wrong

Hamy Oct 11, 2003 04:32 PM

Most of the time DTE but if i'm going on a longer trip I usually go with MPG.

pruizgarcia Oct 11, 2003 04:35 PM

Temp and DTE.

Mine stop working ever since I put in an after market head unit. Dose anyone know if I get the PAC steering wheel controler would it make it work again?

bgates1654 Oct 11, 2003 05:42 PM

DTE 99% of time

Dont even have to do that. There is a white/brown wire that comes off of the bose harness that you are supposed to ground out. Once you do that, it will work again.

2k3blk6spd Oct 12, 2003 03:28 AM

Temp most of the time dte when below 1/4 tank.

sorcereur Oct 12, 2003 06:43 AM

In my opinion, the DTE to very accurate. I've never ran out of gas, but i've gotten that needle so far down after the DTE= ---- (around 20miles left) that i'm a true believer now.
I hate having to reset my MPG. How often do u guys reset it because it seems to get stuck at a certain point, such as when driving in the city, and refuses to increase, such as when u get on the highway?

Quicksilver Oct 12, 2003 08:30 AM

I use temp and DTE...MPG is totally off (by up to 4 MPG in some cases). And I really don't want to know how much time I've spent in the car on this tank. It's depressing...

spauldingsmails Oct 14, 2003 09:53 PM

Ever notice your gas milage (yes the trip computer # that's 4 MPG higher than reality) steadily decrease on a road trip from over 30 to below 20 in under two hours? And only then realize you've actually been reading the DTE figure the entire time, even inserting a decimal point that isn't there? Um, I bet that would sure make one feel pretty stupid...

stockacura Oct 15, 2003 07:17 AM

DTE, haven't tried TEMP yet... Interest as most of you guys have it on TEMP...

sorcereur Oct 15, 2003 07:21 AM

I've never done that. Never confused the two. It clearly says DTE right under it, and MPG right under the other.
How can you imagine that the DTE is MPG and there is a Decimal point? :tardsmash

goldmaxNYC Oct 15, 2003 07:22 AM

Dte & Temp 50/50

maxmizd27 Oct 15, 2003 07:44 AM

Another vote for temp.

MannyNJ2k2max Oct 15, 2003 02:43 PM

Is there a way to reset the MPG??

Hold down the 'TRIP' button on your steering wheel for a few seconds while it's on MPG and it will reset it.

I'm on temp 99% of the time. I like to know what the temperature is going to be like when I step out of my car. Usually hot and humid since I live in Houston.

how lond do you spend in your car ?

I would not think that the temp would change more then 1-3 degrees
within most trips

bremner44 Oct 15, 2003 05:47 PM

I drove from Houston to Montana and then back again a couple months ago. The temp changed about 6 degrees a day (2 day drive). The DTE and MPG seem very inacurate to me so I only check them once in a while. Maybe I'll just put it on the timer and watch the seconds add up. Fun stuff.
